Task Description
I have problems with my SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip with the most recent version (v3.14) Everything works fine on the player, except if the memory card is in. It's a Kingstone 64GB MicroSD XC, formatted Fat32 16K sector allocations. About 6-7000 files on it. If the card is in the player, then it produce random freezings. Sometimes with an error message, sometimes it just "loose" the card and the internal memory too. Do it pretty random during playing/browsing, while playing games, changing settings.
I try to get the error message again then I can update. But at the moment the old version is back 3.13 again.

13133 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Opus files with embedded artwork 45.8KiB or larger skip ... | 2017-10-29 | Eli Bildirici | 2019-08-04 | 2 |
Task Description
Opus files that contain album artwork ~45.8KiB or larger skip near the beginning. This issue has been observed using the latest stable 3.14 build for the Sansa Clip Zip, as well as on xvortex’s fork for the XDuoo X3. This happens with files encoded both with and without the –vbr flag, on Opus versions going back to opustools 0.1.5/libopus 1.0.1 through the current 0.1.10/1.2.1, with files of arbitrary bitrate, size, or length. How much skipping occurs appears to relate to bitrate - the lower the bitrate, the greater the skip. This manifests itself as follows: the first second, 00:00-00:01, plays back fine. Then, playback skips to 00:04, for files of middling bitrate (128-180 kbps or so. On lower bitrate files, the first second is skipped, then 00:01-00:02 is played back, and then we skip forward again to 00:05 or 00:06. The files playback fine in foobar2000 on Windows and Android, as well as GoneMAD on Android. One stripped of artwork, or replaced with artwork of the correct size, the files playback fine on Rockbox, too. At first I thought this behavior was limited to files encoded with opustools 0.1.10/libopus 1.2.1, or if it did happen with older encodes, it only occurred at low bitrates. Subsequent testing has confounded this when I found some old files that had album artwork that were encoded with an older version of opustools but which didn’t have problem playing back. I noticed that the artwork was abnormally small, at just 20KiB, and set out to test. That is how I came up with the 45.8KiB boundary. The largest JPEG I generated that worked was 45.6KiB, and the smallest that failed was 45.8KiB. I wanted to get more granular but quickly learned that generating JPEGs of such an exact file size is not trivial. Attached are files bearing all this out, as well as the source flac, with the original album artwork. All files here were encoded using these parameters: “–quiet –bitrate 96 –vbr –ignorelength”. I also did initial tests without –vbr and at higher bitrates, but got the same results, so I dropped them. There are two sets - turkish_march.7z, which got encoded at higher bitrates typical of music, and verse_of_the_rings.7z, which got encoded at lower bitrates typical of voice (but not in speex mode; we’re still at ~50-60kbps or so). These are just excerpts of the complete files, but the complete files exhibit the same behavior. Forum thread can be found here (though there’s not much there…) http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,52043.0.html And note that yes, I understand that attaching large jpegs to puny opus files is a bit silly. But that doesn’t mean the option shouldn’t be there, particularly if one wished to encode at larger bitrates, for whatever reason.

Task Description
I have never had this kind of error in years, but since a few days ago I am getting this problem randomly. The screen on attachment 20170827_003451_b.jpg shows up, the device is frozen, i have to reset, then every time I reset it the process of Committing database (attachment 20170827_003523_b.jpg) is done. This can happen after 10 minutes while playing files, after 1 hour or after one minute. I updated to 3.14 not long ago but I have been still using 3.14 for a while without issues. I could be also related with the files I play lately (Game of Thrones audiobook, I attach files info), it doesn’t seem to happen with other files. Please let me know if I can provide more info.

13125 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Playback drops out while screen is active | 2017-07-23 | Jack Smith | 2017-07-23
Task Description
Audio playback seems to have occasional but regular "breaks" when the screen is active. I.e. it will play for about 10 seconds, pause for a couple, resume playing, pause, rinse and repeat until the screen blanks. After the screen goes blank playback continues as normal. It doesn't seem to matter if the backlight is on or not, just if there is anything showing on the screen. Experiencing the problem on both a stock and Compactflash modded 5.5 80GB (model A1136) running version 3.14.
So far I only have only been using MP2 and MP3 files with Rockbox so I don't know if it's specifically a MP3 decoder issue or something else. Anyways, here it is.

13123 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | [Clip+/Zip] Pitch inaccuracy in 48kHz mode | 2017-07-15 | Ondrej | 2019-08-04 | 1 |
Task Description
Clip+ and Clip Zip suffers from playback speed inaccuracy of 0.7% compared at 48kHz to 44.1kHz - e.g. 1kHz tone is outputted at 1.007kHz. While not easily noticeable in normal situations (in specific situations it IS quite apparent), A/B or ABX tests are impossible due to this error.
Out of 10 tested devices (6 Clip+ units, 4 Zips), the issue appears on all of them. Correcting the error by changing playback rate is somewhat acceptable workaround, but as playback rate setting is not persistent, complete fix would be highly desirable.
Steps to reproduce: 1. Upload any generated sine wave of known frequency 2. Set 48kHz mode 3. Start playback with frequency counter/DMM/soundcard connected to the output

Task Description
After upgrading from 3.13 to 3.14, when playing most of the ogg vorbis files in my library, a "beeping" sound sporadically occurs.
The sound is random (2 consecutive playbacks of the same track will beep on the same time).
All the files played fine with 3.13. MP3 files play just fine (I have not tested other formats yet).
Possibly interesting facts : Vorbis files with a lower bitrate (<100kpbs) seem to be less subject to this beep. It seems beep never occurs when screen is on.

13118 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Incorrect playback position when seeking AAC files down... | 2017-05-31 | R O | 2017-05-31
Task Description
I downloaded this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrb0dHKJBR4 using the youtube-dl python program. The file plays and seeks correctly in foobar2000 and MPC-HC. But, on my clip+, whether I seek 10 seconds or 10 minutes into the file, it ends up playing a position of the file previous to the one displayed. For example, if I seek 50 seconds forward from the beginning, it will play the file from the start, while the screen still displays as if it's playing from 50 seconds onwards. Seeking to the end of the file will have it play a section from about 2 minutes earlier than it should be, while the time display and music will continue until 1:14:20, with the file actually being 1:12:46.
I did not hear the files being played slower than they should be, so it seems it's only an issue when seeking.
I've confirmed this happens on every AAC file downloaded by youtube-dl, and that re-encoding the same file to AAC using NERO encoder makes the problem dissapear.

13108 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Random crashes when playing music | 2017-03-16 | somedude | 2017-12-16
Task Description
For a couple of months my Sansa Fuze v2 has been crashing randomly when playing music. Most of the time I just get a white screen with an error message. The last message I got was :
'undefined instruction at 0006DC8C'
(I think that last number varies at each crash)
This didn't happen with v3.13, but it's been happening with every daily build I've tested IIRC.
It doesn't happen very often so it's hard to reproduce. I listen to music in public transports about twice a day and this happens not more than once a week. It seems to happen more often when the battery is low (less than 10%). It generally happens early in a playback session, when the first or second track is played.
Sometimes I don't get a white screen, but the program freezes and some parts of the interface are surrounded with white frames. I don't know if it's the same bug or if it's unrelated.
Note that I'm always listening to music on a microSD card, and I haven't tried on the main memory.
PS: I chose "Sansa Fuze+" in the OS list because I couldn't find Sansa Fuse v2.

On short tracks e.g. 0.5s:
1) Files, track, Select fails to play the track, despite that the WPS appears and shows the track and the playing icon. Track Skip to the next track fails to start that playing, and so on until the last track in the current playlist, which does start playing.
Workaround: press Play/Pause to pause, then press again to play.
2) Files, long select, Properties fails to show the duration.
Workaround: none known in Rockbox.
These issues do not appear on 1s files.

Task Description
Hi, I've been using the development version of Rockbox in my ipod classic 6th generation for about two years I think, but from some time, like a month or two, I'm experiencing playback issues as the track I'm listening suddenly skip forward or backward, or even jump for a few seconds on another mp3 file inside the ipod I was just listening before. I don't think is a ipod issue because I can listen the file inside the ipod with my computer player without problems.
There some way I can check older development revisions for the classic? It appears that it doesn't show in the dev build link on the site because is not fully supported. Thanks

13009 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Sansa Clip+ Seeking Fails When Playback Is Paused | 2014-10-13 | Zian Choy | 2014-11-28 | 1 |
Task Description
When I try to seek to say, 18:05 in a WMA file that is 22 minutes and 45 seconds long, Rockbox starts playing from somewhere in the early part of the track (say, 00:05) rather than 18:05.
I was able to reproduce the problem with multiple WMA files that were encoded using Expression Encoder with the WMA codec and VBR. A sample file is available at https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=87EA02230C32BE40!724&authkey=!AFyvy4opeP7Ib9w&ithint=file%2cwma and if the link is dead, please let me know.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add a WMA file to the Clip+. 2. Disconnect the device from the computer by doing a “Safely Remove” or “Eject”. 3. Turn off the device. 4. Turn on the device. 5. Scroll down to “Database” and press the middle button. 6. Scroll to Album and press the middle button. 7. Press the Up button one time. 8. “What The Dog Saw” is probably selected unless you have albums that start with W, X, Y, or Z. If “What The Dog Saw” is not selected, the scroll until it is. 9. Press the middle button. 10. Press the middle button to start playing the first track. 11. Press the Up button to pause playback. 12. Press and hold the Right button to seek to somewhere around 11:00 or later. 13. Release the Right button.
Observe that the timestamp on the left now says something like “0:04” rather than the desired time.
System Details: - Sansa Clip+ - Rockbox Version 3.13

Task Description
I have a couple of hi-res files (24/44) that seems to have audio volume drop-outs at certain points, as if it is an over-reacting dynamic clip prevention. If I try the same file in Foobar 2000, I do not get the sound drop-outs. Dithering is turned on, ReplayGain is on "album", and I tried it both with and without clipping prevention, but both times I got the drop-outs.
The file is too large to attach here, but I can provide it via other means. They are tracks from Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing. I resampled and dithered the official 24/96 release to 24/44 using iZotope RX 3 Advanced. I can provide both resampler and dither settings if desired, or I can just provide the effected tracks (title track, "The Watchmaker", both near the end), or the files themselves.

Task Description
This is more of a feature request. The compresser built into Rockbox needs a little more flexibility. I’d like to normalize the sound. By this, I mean raise up the quiet parts of music without it sounding too distorted and compressed. Can you guys allow the release time to be set longer than 1000 Ms? With the ratio all the way up and the threshold at a reasonable level, I believe I can normalize it with a longer release time (3000 or 5000). The current longest time just makes it sound way overcompressed if I’m not careful.

This file is correctly decoded and displayed in the Fuze+ simulator, but testing on device results in playback stopping. Interestingly, nothing crashes, playback just stops. In theory we should be able to decode this, the resizer does not need to load more than a few lines of the image at once, which should easily fit in memory. Alternatively, if it is too large (or rather wide given that its decoded line by line) for the available space, it should probably just be rejected.

Using release 3.13 on the clip zip, if I were to put the main crossfeed setting on the right button of the quickscreen, it would cycle through to custom but then stop. If I use the left button of the quickscreen, then after custom there is a data abort crash.
Using build c64b59f-140304, both the left and right quickscreen buttons work to cycle through all 3 settings for crossfeed, but I can still trigger the crash if I use the left button. It seems to be sporadic and timing dependent, because if I click through the options quickly it works fine, but if I slow down and hold the buttons for longer at a time then it will eventually trigger.

Task Description
I tested this on a clip+ (3.13) and creative zen (rev cc64d9e), so assuming it’s the same for all devices.
Following setup: - ReplayGain is configured to “Track if Shuffle” - “Prevent clipping” is set to on/off, does not matter
How to reproduce: - make a copy of any RG scanned file which has track/album gain and peak tags - remove the peak tags _only_, leaving gain tags intact
Expected result: - player should be able to adjust the volume, but not prevent clipping
Actual result: - player does not apply neither track not album gain.
Files containing only gain tags but not peak tags come from converting lossless → lossy and transferring gain info (since peaks will be different for the lossy file, peak tags are omitted.) With 11db of volume difference on some tracks, it’s impossible to not notice that. I am not sure why applying RG requires peak tags in rockbox, foobar2000 handles peak tag-less files without issue. Any chance to change this behavior to not rely on peak tags?

On sd card i hear it loud and clear, in internal memory almost same.
Problem almost nonexistent on sandisk firmware, only if you know that something there must be.

12922 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Opus playback failure with album art | 2013-12-23 | Hunter Chandler | 2014-01-12
Task Description
When attempting to play an Opus file on my Clip Zip, the system will sometimes either freeze or give an error, like this:
Data abort at 30 FSR 0x8 (domain 0, fault address 0xFF780 pc:3004C8F4 sp:3 bt end
Whether it freezes or gives an error appears to be random. The address also appears to be random. I fixed the issue by removing album art from the files that were giving me problems. The strange thing is, though, that I have other opus files with album art, and they play without issue.

12889 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Audible pop right after setting Repeat/Shuffle | 2013-08-13 | Juan Gonzalez | 2013-08-16
Task Description
A loud ‘pop’ can be heard on both left and right channels shortly after changing Repeat or Shuffle from the Quickscreen while using Meier crossfeed. The ‘pop’ is louder in volume than the keyclick set to “Moderate”.
Oddly, this only happens when using the Quick Screen and Meier crossfeed. It doesn’t happen changing Repeat/Shuffle from the shortcuts menu or the main menu. It doesn’t happen with crossfeed Off or Custom crossfeed either.
This issue is always reproducible, even in the simulator. Steps to reproduce:
1.- Enable Meier crossfeed: Settings→Sound Settings→Crossfeed→Crossfeed→Simple(Meier) 2.- Make sure you have the Quick Screen enabled: Settings→General Settings→System→Use Shortcuts Menu instead of Quick Screen→No 3.- Start playback of any song. 4.- Access the Quick Screen from the WPS. 5.- From the Quick Screen, change the setting of Repeat and/or Shuffle to any other value. 6.- Leave the Quick Screen going back to the WPS. 7.- Wait 2-3 seconds. Listen for the ‘pop’.
I noticed the issue on build 49bcf35. Still present in daily build from August 6th.

12877 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Unsatisfactory support for LFN (Long File Name) | 2013-07-07 | shela | 2013-07-08
Task Description
In FAT, file name can have max 255 characters (not bytes). A file name that have 255 characters(contains many multibyte characters) is listed in File menu, but playback can’t.
Using patched firmware\include\file.h as a test, MAX_PATH 260 up to 520, rockbox can playback the long name file. But, changing theme causes PANIC.

Task Description
I’ve been having this bug for over mouths and mouths without being able to square it clearly (i.e. even before the new radio implementation). Way to reproduce: - Lock the device in WPS while playing music - put your finger on the touchpad and let it there for more than 6 sec. - the music stop playing, player seems to be frozen. - press the lock key or hard volume’s keys: player won’t unlock but will let playback continue and will then act as normal (i.e. second press unlock the device)

12864 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Automatic Resume behavior inconsistent on 3.13 | 2013-05-24 | Michael Bauminger | 2013-11-18
Task Description
This may be all players; I have only had experience with the Sansa Clip+ and Clip Zip. On version 3.13 the Automatic Resume feature works inconsistently, especially on the 2nd+ file of a playlist.
In version 3.11.2, the feature worked correctly on my Clip+. If I paused the player and the player turned off due to the timeout, when I turned the player back on and pressed the “Home” button or “Resume Playback”, the entire playlist would be back in place and playback would resume at the spot I paused. If I was 30 seconds into the third file in a playlist, playback would resume at that point. When that file finished, the next file in the playlist would start. Pressing “Previous” or “Next” would play the previous or next file in the playlist.
In version 3.13, this feature does not always work correctly. In fact, it rarely works correctly when playing a file that is not the first file in a playlist. Some times it works fine. Most times when I try to resume playback, it instead plays the beginning of the first track in the playlist. Some times when that happens, if I manually navigate to the track I was in when I paused, it will resume that track from the correct position rather than starting it over from the beginning.
This behavior is seriously agitating. I use my player to listen to multi-hour podcasts broken into separate files for each hour. If I get a phone call and pause my player I expect my player to automatically shut itself off after a few minutes, and it does. When I start the player again, I want to be able to pick up just where I left off. On versions prior to this, I could. In 3.13 it does not work 9 out of 10 times.

I’m experiencing an issue with WMA Pro playback on my Clip Zip.
I’ve got the lastest stable build of Rockbox 3.13. Files were encoded with dbpoweramp.
Some files playback normally, but majority of tracks skips. Always at the same point if not forwarding or rewinding.
Here’s a sample. The track skips at 2.15.

The character encoding for the LastFM log is wrong, so I keep getting scrobblings like this one:

Those aren’t very painful as at least the artist gets scrobbled right. But let me scrobble one Lantlôs track, and I’ll get it scrobbled to Lantlôs.
