6363 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Wrong WPS after skip back at the end of a song 2006-11-20Alexander Levin2006-11-211 Task Description

The bug can be reproduced with the build CVS-061118 and a MP3 file with 128kbps and 44100 Hz (created with LAME encoder through CDEx GUI).
Device: Iriver H120.

How to reproduce:

1. Start a song (song A). I used a song of about 3 min length.
2. Wait until it’s come to about 10 secs before the end. You can also use fast forward button to faster get to this point.
3. Wait until it gets to 2 or 1 or 0 secs before the end (I use the remaining duration in WPS). WIth 3 secs before the end, the error does not occur.
4. Press left. This should start the song A from the beginning since it’s still displayed in the WPS.

However, the next song (song B) starts. If the remaining time was 2 secs it goes down to 0. But the WPS still displays the song A. Progress bar and time in the WPS are frozen at the end of the song A (e.g. remaining duration is 0:00). After pressing NAVI (which displays the file browser), the cursor is on the song A. Pressing PLAY (cursor has not been moved) gets back to WPS. There, the song B with correct progress bar and time indicators is displayed.

Here is also the configuration file (exported just before submitting this bug report) – in order to avoid many questions about the settings.

Probably the CVS update from 31 Jul 08:12 solved one serious bug in playback but one similar minor bug still remains.

How to reproduce it:
1. Play an MP3 file (not the last one in a directory).
2. Seek near to the end of the file (i.e. 30 seconds before the end).
3. Stop the playback. (A resume point is stored.)
4. Resume the playback by pressing PLAY.
5. Seek before the time point of resume. (Rockbock will rebuffer.)
6. Wait till the beginning of the next track.
7. Sometimes (always?) the following happens:
- Rockbox will rebuffer again.
- A short part (fraction of a second) of the beggining of the file will be played twice.
- During the first playback the displayed time will show 0:00 or a nonsensical time.

Last time the bug was tested on the firmware CVS 060830-1432 with the default settings on iriver H120.
The bug could not be reproduced with OGG (whole file is buffered) and WV files.

8026 BugsMusic playbackVery Low WPS occasionally misses track change 2007-10-26Steve Bavin22007-10-301 Task Description

Occasionally the track change isn’t reflected in the metadata fields on the WPS. This seems to happen when moving to the first track on the buffer (i.e. after buffering).

For example, my WPS displays the current track metadata for track 2 (and the next track metadata for track 3), along with the track number 3 of 11, during playback of track 3.

This may have been triggered by earlier use of directory skip. I attach my config.cfg for reference.

From daily build r28953 on my gigabeat S WPS locks up if I press pause. After this no buttons work, hardware reset switch must be used to restart gigabeat. Prior to using pause it was noticed that the skip buttons are ignored, but other functions, main menu etc. appear to work OK.

Sequence to recreate:
After installing build, reboot.
Check menu is working OK etc. before resuming or starting playback.
Start/resume playback. Check skip buttons are ignored, other buttons work.
Press pause. Screen locks up (though scrolling text keeps scrolling). No buttons work from this point. Currently playing track continues to play.

Hi,

I’m experiencing an issue with WMA Pro playback on my Clip Zip.

I’ve got the lastest stable build of Rockbox 3.13. Files were encoded with dbpoweramp.

Some files playback normally, but majority of tracks skips. Always at the same point if not forwarding or rewinding.

Here’s a sample. The track skips at 2.15.

to reproduce: just press forward+backward very fast while playing a playlist. press them for dear life.

i noticed some weird things, from displaying the wrong title over displaying the wrong title and a wrong “next song:” or a empty “next song” or a freeze while playback is still playing (holding power helped) up to wrong title, empty “next song” and a stuck progressbar. it didnt “move” although playback worked. when i fast forwarded, the progressbar “moved”, when i stopped, the progressbar stopped too.

second category: playlists. sorry for the long text.

well, it’s quite easy to reproduce: play some music in a folder. i guess the music should not fit into the buffer. then change the folder name of a parent directory.

music continues as normal. but if you skip a few times to the next track (i think other actions are also possible, and sometimes skipping doesn’t work….) the music stops.

from now on it’s not possible to skip or play music. ff/rw is possible, but the music doesn’t play afterwards. selecting other music doesn’t work, right now rockbox apparently freezes at the “loading…“-splash. only a hard reset helps.
the cpu-frequency is at the max, boost is 100%.
and shutting down needs ~10s, maybe due to the high cpu-load.

if you create a playlist with some songs from one folder in it, change the name of the folder, start the playlist, and quickly press PLAY, you will see the information of a song of the playlist. i think its the song which is currently loaded, if you press PLAY immediately after selecting the playlist, it will be son no. 10 or such. if you wait, it will be a song which is more at the end of the playlist. if you wait longer (i guess when the playlist is completely loaded) it will be track one. in any case, the time of the song is 0:00 and doesn’t increase; rockbox doesn’t play music. after a while it shows shortly (root) (root), and then goes to the main menu.

i think there are some more interesting things to discover :) if nobody knows the cause for this at once, i’ll do some further “tests”.

6823 BugsMusic playbackVery Low When resuming playback after shutdown, not all songs ar ...2007-03-14Mark Jordan22007-04-08 Task Description

I currently have my iPod set so that when I start up Rockbox, it automatically resumes whatever I had it playing when I shut it down (by holding the Play/Pause button). However, when the iPod starts up again, the current playlist (not an actual playlist, it’s the dynamic playlist I think) has only 60-70 songs in it, whereas it had about ~400 songs when I shut it down.
It’s not urgent because I can always stop the playback, go into the Database and reselect all the songs, and then it works fine for the rest of the time the iPod is on for.
I think it might be because Rockbox caches a list of the next ~60 songs or so it’s going to play, then only reloads that list (instead of all the songs) into the dynamic playlist or something? Just an idea :)

Many thanks,

 Mark

I was given the chance to review the changes and comment. As a result this bug is now fixed (the loud “clunk” no longer occurs) and this task is properly closed. As indicated above,  FS#12393  was not successfully fixed and this task is being submitted to replace it. At least some tests were conducted on the MP3 files I included and the problem confirmed (as reported in this earlier message to me): From: Rockbox(tracker@rockbox.org)
    Sent: April-13-12 12:06:49 PM
To: terrythegreat-1@hotmail.com  FS#12393  - Annoying “click” before track restarts
User who did this - Alex Parker (BigBambi)

    ———-
Curiously I can reproduce this on Fuze v2, but only with the track attached to this bug report and not with any others that I tried. I don’t have any wma to try. I haven’t tried on any other targets.
    **

Firstly, I have conducted tests using bc41926, release 3.11.2 and the current build on this track and many others downloaded randomly from the internet, including MP3s and WMAs. The results are always the same as described in  FS#12393 . The attached tracks were produced on a friend’s computer using Windows Media Player 12 to rip them from a CD and then transferred to the player. However, I find that these tracks behave exactly the same as those produced on my computer and additionally that of the local university’s machines after a full virus scan. As reported in  FS#12393 , when the user skips back to the start of a track after a few seconds of play, there is an annoying “click” before the music restarts. Also this “click” now occurs whenever the user skips forward a track or back to the previous one. Admittedly, what Alex Parker (BigBambi) may have missed is that occasionally when the WPS playback is activated immediately after powering up the player the “click” may have a much lower volume until after this function is activated a few times. That is why a number of tests lasting a few minutes with a few tracks should always be run to determine whether this bug still occurs after a fix is applied. There may also have been some confusion because BigBambi and saratoga were working on fixing similar problems and their repairs were both included in daily release bc41926.

Secondly, the same problem also occurs on the Sansa Fuze+. It is true that this is classified as an unstable port but since the “click” occurs in the same manner and has exactly the same sound as on the Fuze v2, I can’t help but conclude that this is a problem with the firmware and not with the player or the tracks used.

I would be happy to review your new changes designed to fix this problem and provide constructive feedback. Your goal should be to make the Rockbox firmware as silent as the Sansa firmware during these transitions using the files attached to this report.

5570 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Voicing causes freeze on music playback 2006-06-19Mike Holden172006-08-291 Task Description

If I enable voicing of any kind, then it causes major problems on my 340, with a daily build from the last couple of days. Currently loaded is CVS-20060619.

First off, no file/dir voicing occurs.

Second off, when I play a music file, although the file loads and the WPS shows correct data, no playback occurs, and the counter sticks at 0:00. Sometimes you will hear a tiny fraction of playback, but nothing more. The unit just stops there. It will respond ok to pause/play, and will respond to stop. However when pressing stop, it gets as far as the Creating Bookmark splash, and locks up completely, needing a hard reset with a paperclip.

After a bit of messing around trying to find which build broke it (it used to work, so I thought) I finally hit on what the problem is - while investigating another issue with voicing, I renamed my english.voice file to stop it being loaded on bootup, and this is totally the cause of the problem. If I rename it back to english.voice, everyting works as expected, but if in rename it to EEEenglish.voice, then file/dir voicings fail, and the unit locks up as described above.

The workaround is obvious (load the file and name it correctly), but this bug will hit any user who wants to voice files and dirs, but who doesn’t have an appropriate voice file loaded.

6018 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Voice randomly reads track name whilst music is playing 2006-09-18Hussein Patwa2006-09-28 Task Description

Whilst playing a track, the voice will sometimes randomly overlap the music, reading out the filename of the track at the rate of about one character every 1-1.5 seconds. once the name is read out, playback continues normally with no overlap.

Related to this, there is often a lag between menu navigation options being performed and the corresponding voice commentary. E.g, after just playing a track an pausing it, I can go into Menu, then General settings, then System, and only at this point will the voice announce the current option. I’m lucky that I’m only partially sighted and able to vaguely see the selection line on-screen. I can imagine that many blind users would imagine that nothing had happened, when in fact they were already navigating the menus before being alerted to this fact.

This file is correctly decoded and displayed in the Fuze+ simulator, but testing on device results in playback stopping. Interestingly, nothing crashes, playback just stops. In theory we should be able to decode this, the resizer does not need to load more than a few lines of the image at once, which should easily fit in memory. Alternatively, if it is too large (or rather wide given that its decoded line by line) for the available space, it should probably just be rejected.

With r30907 (and also back to at least r30809 which I tested as well) I experience unneeded mass storage accesses on my iPod nano2G. I do not see this effect on my iPod Video.

Use case:
- Create a playlist from either DB or file browser
- Let buffering finish
- Skip forward track by track
(I use mpc/mp3/aac with embedded album art.)

Effect seen: For some skips I see short flash accesses (much shorter than full rebuffering).

This only happens if dircache is off. With activated dircache this effect is gone.

As such mass storage accesses are severely impacting the battery runtime on HDD targets I hope we get this figured out before v3.10.

I was skipping (forward) a song and then wanted to go back (backward) again. It’s possible I accessed some other buttons/combinations doing this. Anyway it lead to the following error message, which caused me to do a full reset:

Undefined instruction
at 11C89F8C

The system has been working fine since. I’ll report back which build I used.

8691 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Undefined instruction at 01F0ECD8 (0) 2008-03-06Ryan Gooler32008-06-29 Task Description

Was listening to “Don’t Fear the Reaper” on shuffle all my music, and repeat. When the song ended, the music player did not play the next track.

Upon looking at the screen, I discovered an error message. “Undefined instruction at 01F0ECD8 (0)”

Thanks to this, I am unable to turn off my music player, due to it being hard-locked until the battery runs out, or I unscrew the case and pop it out manually again.

Model is specifically a refurbished e270

Hi,

Since build r13783-070704, every time I listen to music (mp3@192kbps) I got a “Undefined instruction at 00057710” and my iPod freezes. The moment when it happens varies (1st time after 10min of listening, 2nd and 3rd time after 25min)
Battery is 50% full.

Regards.

8643 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Unable to skip files on sansa e series 2008-02-25matthew32008-02-29 Task Description

The current build of rockbox for the Sansa e series (I do not know of others) is unable to skip tracks during playback and does not say the name of the next track. Sometimes attempting to skip tracks results in the player locking up. This happens with my Sansa e260 and I have been unable to fix it with a clean reinstall either.

12678BugsMusic playbackVery LowUnable to play WMA Pro (possibly VBR)2012-05-18Albert Meltzer72012-05-201 Task Description

The player (Sansa Clip Zip) appears to refuse or unable to play some of my WMA tracks; as far as I can tell, the problem is specific to my WMA Pro files only as it plays none of them (but works with WMA2 successfully). I have attached one of the examples.

I understand that a similar issue was reported recently (in  FS#12619 ) although, in my case, the player doesn’t start playing and skips to the next immediately, rather than playing part of the track.

9250 BugsMusic playbackVery Low UI freeze when playing one particular song 2008-08-07Andrew Gaffney52008-12-02 Task Description

I’ve been running rockbox for 2-3 months on my Sansa e260. I’ve tried 3 different builds, the latest from ~3 weeks ago.

I’ve been getting what I thought to be random freezes. When it happens, the UI is completely unresponsive aside from hitting a button to turn on the screen or holding down the power button for 10s to shut it off.

However, it doesn’t become unresponsive all at once. Usually, the volume will still work for a few seconds after the Prev/Next navigation stops working. But it eventually all stops working.

It seems to be one particular MP3 file on my player that causes this freeze. I’ve had it happen with two different random playlists, and it also happens with a playlist of *just* this one file.

The file in question can be found at the following URL. It’s the only file in the directory.

8449 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Track time not updating during pause fade 2008-01-12Nate Rowe32008-06-15 Task Description

I have the fade in/out option enabled on my iPod 4G Color and when I press play or pause the track time does not update on the wps. This only happens during the fade in/out sequence, so sometimes the time (in seconds) will jump ahead 2 seconds to catch up to the current and accurate time into the track.

10101 BugsMusic playbackVery Low track skipping stops file buffering 2009-04-05Jonathan Gordon62009-06-101 Task Description

start playback, wait for a few sec then skip to the next track. disk activity should stop.. check the buffering debug screen and userfl, alloc and real should all be way below where you would expect (i.e <50%).

the “problem” here looks like the skip track kills buffering. We need to decide if we want to fix this or not.
The biggest annoyance from this is that there will be no next track info until the next buffer… Usually when the buffer is filled the first track that didn’t fit gets its id3 buffered separately so there is almost always something to display. This doesn’t happen until the end of buffering, and because its getting cut short there is nothing loaded, so nothing to display.

apart from that its not really an issue, just makes an etxra buffering earlier than it should

8526 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Track 1 in folder is reported as track 2 2008-01-28Mark22008-02-253 Task Description

Rockbox reports the first track in a folder as track 2.

Happens after a folder or playlist finishes.

10341 BugsMusic playbackVery Low Timestretch: speed-only bugged if you didn't use speed- ...2009-06-16Thomas Martitz42009-06-171 Task Description

You enabled timestretch and when into the pitchscreen → timestretch mode.

If you didn’t use speed corrected pitch before, speed-only change will not work. It creates silence on my e200, the song elapsed time goes really fast and sometimes the next track info is messed up.

Observed on r21305 and r21304.
