Task Description
The summary pretty much says it all I keep getting stuck in the directory view with the current build on my h140 if I try to use it to change which directory I am currently playing files from when playback of the current file is paused.
I pause the current song enter directory view, change into the new directory I wish to listen too and press select on the first file.
My player then no longer responds to key presses to move the curser up and down or even shutdown, but when you press a key the back light comes on and after a few seconds the back light goes back out again.
The only way shutdown the player or exit the directory view at this point is to press the reset button.
I don't know if which codec I am using is important but I am using ogg files at the moment.

5570 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Voicing causes freeze on music playback | 2006-06-19 | Mike Holden | 2006-08-29 | 1 |
Task Description
If I enable voicing of any kind, then it causes major problems on my 340, with a daily build from the last couple of days. Currently loaded is CVS-20060619.
First off, no file/dir voicing occurs.
Second off, when I play a music file, although the file loads and the WPS shows correct data, no playback occurs, and the counter sticks at 0:00. Sometimes you will hear a tiny fraction of playback, but nothing more. The unit just stops there. It will respond ok to pause/play, and will respond to stop. However when pressing stop, it gets as far as the Creating Bookmark splash, and locks up completely, needing a hard reset with a paperclip.
After a bit of messing around trying to find which build broke it (it used to work, so I thought) I finally hit on what the problem is - while investigating another issue with voicing, I renamed my english.voice file to stop it being loaded on bootup, and this is totally the cause of the problem. If I rename it back to english.voice, everyting works as expected, but if in rename it to EEEenglish.voice, then file/dir voicings fail, and the unit locks up as described above.
The workaround is obvious (load the file and name it correctly), but this bug will hit any user who wants to voice files and dirs, but who doesn’t have an appropriate voice file loaded.

5803 | Bugs | Music playback | High | Constantly rebuffering | 2006-08-13 | Paul Louden | 2006-08-13
Task Description
Due to some recent changes (I suspect relating to MEMORYSIZE, but have no evidence to back it up yet, as I don't know where it's defined yet) players constantly rebuffer after the buffer gets below a certain point, but only seem to buffer a very small amount, fall back down below, and rebuffer again, leading to near constant activity.
This happens on at least the H300 and iPod Nano, and I have no reason to believe it doesn't happen on everything.

I just installed the latest daily on my 4g ipod (27.11.2006) but I get random freezes during playback that lock the ipod completely (select/menu reset required). Is this a known issue or is there anything I can provide to help track down the problem? No obvious cause that I can see, although its possible it only occurs with the playback view showing (the one with the progress bar/track name etc).

Task Description
Description of problem: Buggy playback behavior occurs in r17430 with rewinding the first song. This behavior occurs with iPod 5G 60GB (sim and real). This does not occur in r17108. So I think that r17109’s change is the cause.
Steps to Reproduce: (0) download “*.flac” file and cover.bmp from the following URL and put those into the same directory. http://www.esnips.com/web/flac-playback (1) change wps theme to cabbiev2 (2) play 01.flac (3) play 08.flac with the rewind button while playing 01.flac
Actual results: o real target: Next song will be 05.flac
o simulator: Next song will be 02.flac
Expected results: Next song should be 01.flac

13083 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Ipod Classic playback jumping | 2016-09-16 | Emanuel | 2019-10-24
Task Description
Hi, I've been using the development version of Rockbox in my ipod classic 6th generation for about two years I think, but from some time, like a month or two, I'm experiencing playback issues as the track I'm listening suddenly skip forward or backward, or even jump for a few seconds on another mp3 file inside the ipod I was just listening before. I don't think is a ipod issue because I can listen the file inside the ipod with my computer player without problems.
There some way I can check older development revisions for the classic? It appears that it doesn't show in the dev build link on the site because is not fully supported. Thanks

13108 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Random crashes when playing music | 2017-03-16 | somedude | 2017-12-16
Task Description
For a couple of months my Sansa Fuze v2 has been crashing randomly when playing music. Most of the time I just get a white screen with an error message. The last message I got was :
'undefined instruction at 0006DC8C'
(I think that last number varies at each crash)
This didn't happen with v3.13, but it's been happening with every daily build I've tested IIRC.
It doesn't happen very often so it's hard to reproduce. I listen to music in public transports about twice a day and this happens not more than once a week. It seems to happen more often when the battery is low (less than 10%). It generally happens early in a playback session, when the first or second track is played.
Sometimes I don't get a white screen, but the program freezes and some parts of the interface are surrounded with white frames. I don't know if it's the same bug or if it's unrelated.
Note that I'm always listening to music on a microSD card, and I haven't tried on the main memory.
PS: I chose "Sansa Fuze+" in the OS list because I couldn't find Sansa Fuse v2.

13125 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Playback drops out while screen is active | 2017-07-23 | Jack Smith | 2017-07-23
Task Description
Audio playback seems to have occasional but regular "breaks" when the screen is active. I.e. it will play for about 10 seconds, pause for a couple, resume playing, pause, rinse and repeat until the screen blanks. After the screen goes blank playback continues as normal. It doesn't seem to matter if the backlight is on or not, just if there is anything showing on the screen. Experiencing the problem on both a stock and Compactflash modded 5.5 80GB (model A1136) running version 3.14.
So far I only have only been using MP2 and MP3 files with Rockbox so I don't know if it's specifically a MP3 decoder issue or something else. Anyways, here it is.

Task Description
I have problems with my SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip with the most recent version (v3.14) Everything works fine on the player, except if the memory card is in. It's a Kingstone 64GB MicroSD XC, formatted Fat32 16K sector allocations. About 6-7000 files on it. If the card is in the player, then it produce random freezings. Sometimes with an error message, sometimes it just "loose" the card and the internal memory too. Do it pretty random during playing/browsing, while playing games, changing settings.
I try to get the error message again then I can update. But at the moment the old version is back 3.13 again.

Task Description
In build 20030121.ajz [recorder], I have experienced some strange skips while the player is subject to moderate motion [moving car]. No problem whatsoever if the player is stationary. I have reproduced this with two different hard-disks. Version 1.4 does not show the problem.
The problem: while playing back hour long radio recordings, somewhat infrequently [once every 5-10 minutes or so], I get a half-second or so snip of something that played a few minutes before, along with a skip in the time-line of more than a half-second. If I rewind and replay, no problem. One of the disks [an ibm] ran the ibm diagnositc [long version] with no errors [no test available for the other drive].
Just a guess, it looks like something very different is being done on a re-read than with version 1.4.

2687 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Rewinding at end of song confuses playback | 2005-09-21 | | 2008-01-08
Task Description
Using the rewind feature when an mp3 only has a few seconds remaining confuses the firmware as to which song is actually playing resulting in it NOT playing at the current rewind position, but rather playing the next track in queue(at the rewind position). In addition, the wps for the next track in queue is not displayed, the previous track’s wps that was rewound is still displayed. Going into navigation mode will correct the wps display issue.
I could reproduce the bug reliably with mp3’s. Flacs and oggs appear to fine.

Task Description
When listening to an MP3 file encoded in 64kbps mono on the iRiver H120, Rockbox reports the bitrate as 128kbps and, on screens that show the remaining time of the track, it shows the remaining playing time incorrectly. It shows a time exactly half of the true running time and still decrements every second. When it reaches 0, it starts counting backwards - e.g. “-00:-01” for the remainder of the file. On a 64kbps STEREO file, the bitrate and time display is shown correctly.

5260 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Can't seek in FLAC | 2006-04-30 | Ben Bordiss | 2006-04-30
Task Description
Rockbox daily version rockbox-h120-20060430.zip running on iRiver H140.
Playing back a FLAC file encoded using dbPoweramp and then pressing and holding the fast forward / seek button causes playback to go to the beginning of the next track. Pressing rewind causes playback to commence from the beginning of the second track. Maybe an issue with how long the button is pressed? It acts as if the button was “jogged” rather than held each direction.
I searched and couldn’t find this as an issue. Foobar on the PC can search through FLACs, this should too. I believe should be a high priority item.

Task Description
The Rockbox daily 2006-05-07 build of the iRiver h100 series port (on an iRiver h140) seems to have some problems fast-forwarding through FLAC files. In particular, if I try to fast-forward to the midway point of a 300MB FLAC, Rockbox appears to start seeking to it – the hard drive light flashes – but Rockbox just winds up restarting the playback from the beginning.
I’ve noticed that I can fast-forward ahead by short hops – about 1 or 2 minutes at a time – without this problem happening. Perhaps it’s fast-forwarding through the cache for these short hops, but the longer skip exceeds the cache?
Fast-forwarding through large MP3s (albeit not 300MB MP3s …) seems to work OK
Any ideas?

5318 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | playback stops unexpectedly | 2006-05-08 | Robert Kukla | 2006-06-06
Task Description
This is difficult to reproduce, as it usually only happens after playing several albums worth of music (playlist or auto change dir). The playback stops in the middle of a song and I can’t get it to restart whatever I try (toggle pause, stop/play, select different song). Only solution I have found is to shut down and restart in which case it auto-resumes without problems. One thing I noticed is that the wps gets somewhat corrupted when skipping in aforementioned (silent) state - notably the year field suddenly contained the replaygain value. It has happened often enough on different files to rule out corrupted files. Also they play without problems after restart. All my files are mp3. I’ll try to collect more information, but it is difficult as it usually happens when I am out and about. Has anyone else experienced this?

I get ‘codec failure’ after the last track is played. I do have files in the album which are not mp3 files, the file extensions in an album are .m3u .txt .jpg and a .pun file, I think it’s the .pun file which creates the codec failure, if I remove the .pun file all is well.

This is very hard to reproduce. It has only happened about 3 times in the last week. I will be playing music (without touching anything for the last 5 tracks or so), then suddenly playback pauses, but comes back about a second later. You think all is well, but then, playback starts to seek forward indefinitely on its own! The only solution I’ve found is a reboot when it’s seeking. Or, the first time playback pauses, if you hit buttons, that prevents it from acting funny. By ‘hitting buttons’ I mean, next-track/prev-track/pause.

However, once the playlist has finished, file and dir names no longer speak, until I reboot the unit again.
Menu voicing is turned off, if that makes any difference.
This is with a CVS version from a couple of days ago CVS-060517, and many versions before that as well - not sure if it ever worked!

standard settings + “Auto-change directory = on”, “Repeat = off”. (cvs 2006-05-22 06:57) http://www.rockbox.org/dist/build-iaudiox5/ says “rockbox.zip 22-May-2006 09:00”
when playing the last file in a folder it jumps nicely to the first file of the next folder, but only plays like 2 min of that song then playback stops (for flac files, mp3s seems to play longer, sometimes even a few songs, but also eventually stops). to continue you can either skip to the next track or select a track from the filebrowser, but you can’t skip back to the beginning of the track it stops on. to me it seems like the codec-bar in “Info→Debug (Keep Out!)→View audio thread” ends up empty to early, also the “boost ratio” falls down and ends on 0% at the same time as the codec-bar turns empty and playback stops.

5582 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Buffer desync and wrong recalculation of filebufused | 2006-06-21 | Tomasz Malesinski | 2006-10-12
Task Description
Recalculation of filebufused in codec_discard_codec_callback() is clearly wrong. It should be based on buf_ridx and buf_widx not track_ridx and track_widx.
I am not yet familiar with the code enough, but I suppose that a buffer desync should not happen in first place. Anyway, here is a way to produce a desync (tested in simulator only): Put two files, shorter than the codec buffer, in different formats (eg. mp3 and ogg) to one directory. Start playing one of them, skip to the next one, skip back to the first one and once again skip to the second one. Buffer desync should happen because discard_codec assumes there is no codec in the buffer (cur_ti→has_codec is false). Incorrectly recalculated filebufused will cause problems when all the data from the codec buffer will be played. End of buffered data will not be noticed because of incorrect value of filebufused.

Task Description
Hi
A friend of mine did show me your website yesterday and I got pretty excited about all the features you offer for my good OLD iHP140, so I downloaded and installed it and what can I say? FANTASTIC … I really love what you did, it's incredible. I always thought that this little machine could do much more things than iRiver itself offers.
BUT … you know, I love crossfading so when I heard that my iRiver can do that, I had to activate it and it worked - BUT … after a while, I was playing with ALL THOSE Options (jeez … that's way too much for a small german like me) and decided that crossfading should be ony available for SHUFFLE-Play and I tried to activate it … I was listening to a song and pushed the button and then - my iRiver freezes and nothing I could do changed anything. The player itself did shutdown after 10 minutes (the time I did set up for shut down) and whenever tried to re-activate crossfading, the same happens - it's kinda frustrating, you know?
Oh, just to make sure, I set my player to GERMAN language
Can someone please help me or fix that problem?

Hello! Please help: on my iRiver H10 there is a serious bug with your firmware. When i start playback, song is playing only for 5-6 seconds, then HDD is turning on, and playback continues, but after every 5-6 secs this bug repeats. All cashes i have set up, but it still doesn’t work. I prefer your firmware for it loud sound, ad want to use it normally. Thank you!

6117 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | File buffering failure results in white noise/position ... | 2006-10-04 | Steve Bavin | 2006-11-06
Task Description
From the forum, posts by woodensoul (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=6739):
“Sometimes a song won’t finish and jump right into the next one. Sometimes a song will repeat when repeat is set to ‘off’. Nearly every time I play the first track in a directory, playback stops after the first track is finished instead of playing the next track in the playlist like it should. I even got a loud distorted noise while the player incorrectly changed tracks.”
“I was able to reproduce all the bugs I mentioned in my first post using the bleeding edge build from 9.28. The only setting I changed was to set Repeat to ‘Off’. Play a track in a directory. Wait until the directory is finished playing and playback stops. (You could probably skip forward to the end of the directory and wait for that track to finish.) Navigate to another directory and play the first track. Instead of playing the next track in the directory after playback for the first finishes, as it should be, playback stops after the first track. If you play the second track now, playback seems to continue correctly until (possibly the buffer runs out as mhebsacker mentioned) some loud static or white noise comes in the middle of a track and then the track repeats and finishes, then proceeds to play the next track without the track title changing to reflect the new track and the elapsed time continuing past the duration of the previously played track. i.e. (7:15/5:34). The elapsed time just continues to go up until you force the player to re-buffer the song. The white noise/static thing doesn’t happen every time but did happen a few times in 7 hours of listening last night. Playback stopping after the first track in a directory happened several times.”
Note that I (pondlife) haven’t actually been able to reproduce this problem, although have heard white noise in the past. PaulJam has also had it fail on the simulator, but not reliably.
I’m opening this bug report in hope that someone will come up with a reliable method to make it fail every time on my device (or even better on the simulator) as this needs fixing before I forget how the playback code works

6193 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | iPod Photo reboots while playing | 2006-10-16 | Matthias Urlichs | 2007-01-10
Task Description
During playback, about every half hour or so, my iPod 4G Color reboots. The boot sequence stops with “Rockbox loaded”, i.e. before the RockBox splash screen, and I have to reboot it again manually. The problem seems to be unrelated to specific MP3 contents, as the second time around Rockbox will not die again at the same place.
I have tried the current daily build as well as the earliest one that’s still available (2006-09-20). Both fail. The version I was using before, 2006-08-19, works correctly.

Task Description
After deleting a music track and auto resume is on, player will crash if a new music file is selected after auto resume is attempted. current workaround is to start device, turn off auto resume, turn off device, turn on device, select new music file, turn auto resume back on.

6317 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Lockup if stopping while still seeking to resume point | 2006-11-11 | Peter D'Hoye | 2007-07-31 | 3 |
Task Description
Hitting stop while still reading the file to reach the resume point causes a lockup.
1) Play a fairly large WAV and seek quite far into stop start playback using ‘play’ to resume where left press stop again before playback resumes (= while reading the file to rewach the resume point)
backlight thread still running but paperclip required to get a usable player again.
Observed on h340 but probably an issue on al SWCODEC

6333 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | 48kHz sample rate problem | 2006-11-15 | Carl | 2006-11-15
Task Description
My 48kHz aac dont play properly on my iriver h180(h140 ugraded with a mk8007gah). The aacs sound like if there pitch is around 5% to low. I play the same aac at 44kHz(recompressed) and the sound is perfect.
Rockbox see that the aacs are at 48kHz when I look at the id3 infos.
My aac are at 224 kpbs and were compressed in Itune 6.0.5.20 and I’m playing them with rockbox-h120-20061114 build.

The data abort # is 00030F18
It seems that it crashes when rockbox has Korean filename. first crashed on 11/15/06 build… I want old settings back :<
and one more thing, on the playing screen Korean is broken - the language shows properly just on the menu list.
I have XP Pro Kor in this laptop and 5g gen ipod video.
