319 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | no sound when ffwd. and buffer not full | 2002-09-28 | Uwe Freese | 2002-10-04
Task Description
When I press fast forward and jump to for example 0:50 of a song when the song just started (in the first second of playback), there is no sound.
I think this is because the buffer thread has not filled the whole buffer then and I try to jump to a position which is not in the buffer yet.
If I seek again to for ex. 2:30 (buffer is filled completely new from hdd), the sound starts again.

Task Description
PLAYER 6000: When resume is active in settings and I try to playback a special MP3 the player freezes. I know this has already been reported but the problem is that the player now always freezes when I turn it on. The only way to get rid of this is re-installing version 1.2 but then there are cryptic symbols in the player settings menu.

Archos Jukebox Studio 20:
It happened only when in move until now: sometimes (not often) a song isn't played until the end, instead the next track is played.
One song (Zappa: "Zoot Allures") had a very short interrupt at a definite position, which didn't appear when played with Winamp on PC (from the Archos HDD).

Task Description
AJBR6K RockBox 1.3 (and any daily build since) Resume=ask or yes
Resuming a long track (200 minutes) starts from the beginning of the file instead of the point where the Jokebox was shut down. A 22:47 minute file resumes OK, but I haven't been able to isolate any further than this.
Pausing the track before shutting down makes no difference.

Bug report when using Rockbox V 1.3
This bug only occurs when connected to a car radio Cassette Adapter (as per the Archos accessories pack)
Symptoms: When playing (either in ‘normal’ mode or a playlist), with shuffle on or off…. the unit jumps to the next track prematurely. This happens consistantly and regularly. This happens with the Archos remote ‘in-line’ and without the remote connected.
I cannot reproduce this problem when playing the JBR through headphones or a variety of domestic hi-fi amplifiers.
Suggestion: As Rockbox enables the remote to work (which the Archos firmware fails to do reliably) it may be that the JBR is reacting to a signal sent from the cassette player/adapter. If this is the case it may be useful/simplist to have an option in the firmware to enable/disable the remote control.
I suspect that my cassette machine is perodically automatically searching for ‘the next track’ (or similar function) on an audio cassette that does not exist (I cannot turn this function off on my cassette deck). In so doing it may be sending a low voltage (?) to the JBR through the cassette adapter which the JBR interprets as a command to go to the next track.
I love Rockbox… but can’t use it in my car with a cassette adapter (which is when I use it most). I do hope you can fix this.
Many thanks. Rockbox rocks!!

205 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Pause, then "Back" .. unexpectec result | 2002-09-03 | | 2002-10-11
Task Description
I've made the switch to Rockbox. All is well except one minor bug found. My player is a Recorder 20 (unmodified) with base firmware 1.24. / Rockbox version 1.3
If you Pause the current song and then press "Back", the song begins from the start with the Pause "//" indicator still showing. If you then press "Play" the indicator changes to ">" but the time elapsed changes to a very large number.
Abosultely excellent progress, by the way, on the RockBox function. I really like the resume function within a track, plus the more intelligent button operations and elimination of some very long-standing bugs in the Archos firmware. Keep up the excellent work.

Hi again… In my last post, I forgot to tell, that I don't use folders in which I play, I put all 450 MP3's in the root directory without being separeted by folders. I heard that the maximum numbers of files in one folder are 400…?!?!?! Maybe that's the reason for the freezing and so on…

Task Description
A list of the bugs I and many people in the funmp3player- forum discovered already. Most of them (including me) are using JB6000 with 5.07a firmware.
- MP3s not loading and even freezing the AJB. - MP3s playing then freezing the AJB displaying "End of list, press on" - MP3s playing then jumping to the next one before the end of the music. - Turns off by hitting "stop" even with they keylock on.
I really love the new features you added to the firmware, but I hope you can fix this with the next version…
The is alot of traffic going on in the forum about your firmware…

188 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | MP3 files end prematurely | 2002-08-30 | John Peel | 2002-10-11
Task Description
I have a AJBR6 (now with an IBM 20Gig) It came with version 1.17i in the ROM but currently load 1.27d.
I have a problem that some of my mp3 files play fine, but then end prematurely. For example a 5 min song will play the first 1.5 min of the song, and then move directly to the next song as if the first song had ended. I assume that this happens when the buffer is refreshed. This has happened on mulitple mp3s on my AJBR. The songs play fine on the original firmware, and of course on winamp.
I also wondered if there was something screwed up with the file in the filesystem or something so I moved the file around to see if it would magically "fix" it, but it did not.
The point at which it "ends" is very repeatable.
This happens on both version 1.2 and 1.3 of the Rockbox firmware.
At this point it looks like my AT&T broadband server is acting screwy, so I could email my example file to someone, or maybe put it on an ftp/http site later…

181 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Fails to play some tracks | 2002-08-29 | | 2002-10-11
Task Description
I have JBR20 with on-board firmware 1.24.
If I use RockBox 1.3, some files will not play - instead, I get a screen that looks like:
No other info on screen, but that text appears in the "correct" place. The information is of course wrong - the encoding was 128kbit and 44.1KHz, if I remember correctly.
I know I have some files which may have incorrect timing information (the Archos firmware (I am using 1.27c) plays these correctly, but displays a time which is an integer multiple of the actual time, and counts down at double or triple speed to compensate. Winamp 2.8 plays them quite happily with the correct file info so I don't know what the problem is.). I don't know if this is related.
Other than that, RockBox is something I can see myself moving to - probably on the next major release. Keep up the good work.
Regards,
Stephen Johnson stephen@athene.freeserve.co.uk

179 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Skips to next track when walking | 2002-08-29 | | 2002-10-11
Task Description
When I had my AJ6000 (V 5.02) in the pocket of my trousers and I walked, the player skipped the track after some time and jumped to the beginning of the next track (I'm not very sure, but very propably after 1:50, when the AJ had to refill the buffer). The AJ with the Archos Firmware used to do this too if the Player joggled while walking. But it only used to stop playback and resumed when the player was still again and could access the HD.

177 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Freezing when playing some MP3s | 2002-08-29 | | 2002-10-11
Task Description
On AJB6k with Rockbox 1.3 (for 4.50 or higher) :
There are some MP3s which freeze the AJB, i can only switch it off then (but the backlight is working). It seems to occur on VBR or high-bitrates-non-VBR files only (not 100% sure anyway), but not all of these, not the highest-bitrates-VBR and not all the files over a same album. Also, it's not related with the encoder used. Anyway, it's always occuring on the same files. I haven't tried to recopy these on AJB.

176 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Fast forward fails after 80 minutes | 2002-08-29 | Martin Borus | 2002-10-11
Task Description
Hi,
I’ve just updated to JB1.3 on a 20GB Recorder. I love the fast forwarding for large files, so I set my forward step to 30 seconds.
When forwarding in long files I get the problem that forwarding fails after a certain point.
With a 3 hour long 128k CBR file I can forward to aproximately 86minutes. When I got on, the time is displayed correctly, but when I release the button, the file plays *from the beginning*. If I rewind a bit to before 80minutes, I reach the correct point.
With a 5 hour long 160k average VBR file I can forward to aprox 67minutes.
My assumption is, that the forwarding only works until a certain file size (poin) is reached.
Try it out :)

169 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Playback corruption with Layer 2 files | 2002-08-28 | Dave Chapman | 2002-10-11
Task Description
I have a brand new Recorder 20 with Archos firmware 1.28 in ROM. I am using Rockbox Firmware 1.3.
I have tried two "layer 2" audio files from two different sources, and they both exhibit the same audio problem. They are both 48KHz, 192kbit/s Stereo Mpeg-1, Layer 2 files.
In both files, approximately every 12 seconds, the sound is very briefly corrupted - i.e. on 12 seconds, 24 seconds, 36 seconds etc. The same files play back fine on a PC, and also with the Archos Firmware.
12 seconds of audio in these files is 288,000 bytes (if that helps!).

147 | Bugs | Music playback | Low | Still alittle too loud | 2002-08-18 | | 2002-08-28
Task Description
I use my studio 20 in both a car audio and computer audio setup. On the low end computer audio speakers it's not bad. Not too much distortion at high volume. But, when playing in my Honda Accord with a stock stereo system, it can get really distorted. I have to keep it at low volumes. Plus the bass doesn't come in as bass, more like a hissing sound. When I use Archos standard OS everything works/sounds fine. Bottom line: Interface is great. Sound quality needs a little more work.

124 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Sound distortion on Player (6000) | 2002-08-09 | | 2002-08-28
Task Description
I downloaded player MOD file (for firmware greate then 4.50).
After renaming old ARCHOS.MOD (6.07a), I renamed new mod file to correct name.
Repowered on.
Boot Logo is distored. Not same as show in screen shot. More likse a centered graphic with empty band in center of display (horizontal).
Real issue: MP3 playback had a lot of popping (like overdriving) sound.
A fast 'loud' song by Bad Religion (supersonic)was all pops. A quiet starting song by Wierd Al (The Saga Begins) plays fine in the beginning, but when background music increases popping returns.
Adjusted Volume, Bass, and Teble to 30%, 0db and 0db respectively, no change in pops.
