FS#1175 - Delay when ff/rew
Both 1.4 and the current daily builds are much slower
than the Archos firmware when it comes to switching
tracks with ff/rew. Rockbox takes about 3 seconds to
respond at all (it doesn’t even update the track title on
the display to show you that you actually hit the
button). The Archos firmware is better in several ways
on this one…first, it stops playing the current song as
soon as you hit the ff or rew button, so you know that
you hit the button and that it’s started the process.
Second, it updates the display with the new song fairly
instantly. Finally, the actual process of starting up the
new song is much faster usually 1 second or less.
I’ve got the Recorder, model JBR20101.
ROM: 1.28
Mask: 0×0302 USB: positive
ATA 0×200 PR: positive
Freq: 11.0592MHz
I’ve had the same results with Rockbox 1.4 and the
daily builds from the last several days (just got the unit,
haven’t tried anything older). I set disk spindown to 10
seconds (tried 15 and 30, too), and idle powerdown is
off.

I just tested this, and the speed difference between archos and rockbox
is very small, maybe a couple of hundred milliseconds.
The
major difference is that we don’t stop playing the previous track until just
before the next track starts. I have always considered this a feature, but if
it is confusing to people maybe we should change it.
Can you try the latest daily build and see if it is better
for you?
