FS#11781 - Rockbox makes my screen-reader freeze.

I’m using NVDA with Windows 7. I can start Rockbox okay, but when I go to select my mp3 player and press the auto-detect button, it makes the computer freeze and I have to log off and log on and try again.

no response from reporter for over a year.

Rockbox has not auto-detect button. Are you talking about Rockbox Utility?

Yeah, I'm using Rockbox utility.

If I get Rockbox Utility and put it on my Sansa Fuse, then will it come with a voice?

Rockbox Utility is for installing Rockbox. It can also install the voice file provided on the rockbox.org site, and it can generate a voice file using the TTS available on your system (SAPI on Windows). Rockbox Utility will not enable voice support by just placing it on the player.

Please elaborate the "computer freeze" issue in more detail. I don't believe the computer is freezing (if you can log out the computer is still running). It's possible that Rockbox Utility seems to freeze during detection, and depending on the drives attached to your computer that can take a couple of seconds (f.e. if you have slow drives or network drives attached).

I don't really need the auto-dection, I can just select the player manually. I have a Sansa Fuze.

When I tried to install Rockbox, it said it needed a copy of the firmware in a .bin file., and it said to go and get it. I don't know where to go and get it.

So do you now have Rockbox Utility causing problems during autodetection or not? If this task is only about the question where to get the bin file (the dialog box has a hyperlink pointing to the correct website) then this is a support question and nothing we support in the tracker. Support questions are *only* dealt with in our support channels (IRC, mailing lists, forums).

Yeah, auto-detection still freezes Rockbox utility. But i can just select my player manually, so it doesn't matter really.

The hyperlink doesn't work. I can still read it though.

Please post the output of the About / Troubleshooting / System Trace dialog. You can also find that file in your systems temporary folder (the location depends on your operating system used).

Also, how exactly does "freeze" look like? Rockbox Utility might appear frozen for a while but it should end up with some "nothing found" like message after a while.
