Hi there! I'm having a huge problem with the rockbox boot on an iPod classic 5G. I've selected a number of option in the tagcache settings, such as 'load to ram', and after it readed all the files (30GB of music) ask me to reboot, and finally it freezes on the message 'saving tagcache' [1/9], responding only when i press menu+select for reboot. The same for the usb connection. I can't manipulate the files in any way!

Please excuse my limited English. Greetings from Argentina and congratulations for the fantastic project!

Try enabling metadata logging from:

System - Debug (Keep Out!) - metadata log

And then checking the log left on the root of the devices filesystem after the failed attempt to build the database, it may give you a clue as to which file(s) it is preventing the database from building correctly.

As the device freezes during database commit, enabling metadata logging won't help diagnose the issue. The file metadata has already been read and logged to the database_tmp.tcd file.

Freezes during database commit typically point to a deeper problem with the hardware or the device drivers, but let's work under the assumption that you've discovered a database bug.

I'm not sure what you mean with this sentence; please explain your observation, and the steps leading to it, in more detail.

(Doesn't the iPod 5G port provide USB connectivity via some sort of bootloader USB mode or emergency disk mode? Please check the manual or ask in the forums; this bug tracker is not meant for user support.)

Once your device is connected in a non-Rockbox mode, please make a copy of your /.rockbox/database*.* files and attach them to this tracker task.

Are you sure this happened in 3.8.1, and not an earlier version? Does it still happen in current versions?

PP502x ATA DMA was causing instability. I can to reliably reproduce data abort crashes while committing the database when DMA is enabled due to  FS#12391 . However, PP502x ATA DMA was turned off in 3.8.1.
