FS#13355 - Dev build unbootable on iPod mini 2G

Revision 58bf7c7e6f.

The iPod freezes at the boot logo.

Additionally, I upgraded my iPod video to this same build, and it boots on the target.

Good news/bad news.

The good news is that I can recreate the failure by grabbing the latest nightly build.
The bad news is that if I compile that same revision myself, it works.

So… I don't know WTF is going on here, unless there's somethign wrong with one of our builders…

Alright, I just spent a few hours fighting with this so I thought I would post my findings…

Just like OP around a week ago I tried to update my Ipod Mini 2G via the official build channels and I had the same issues. The device would boot past the bootloader but freeze on the rockbox splash screen, no amount of waiting would get it to properly start. After a bit of searching I found this thread and tried what speachy was saying. I compiled rockbox myself but had no luck, it still froze.

Fast-forward to today when I gave it another go and now my local build is indeed working. It took me a bit to figure out why but I think I figured it out. When I first built the firmware I had it build the bootloader as well (thinking that it was somehow required for the build to work right), but when I built it this time, I did NOT select the bootloader option. It seems to me that selecting the bootloader option somehow breaks the rest of the build.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about how rockbox is built to investigate this any further, but at least for now, if you are experiencing this same issue, you can build rockbox yourself to get around it, just DON'T select the bootloader option when building.
