FS#1488 - Also have the Read Access Error

I’ve been having “Red Led Dead” for a couple of weeks,
as well as (unless this is the same problem) where the
counter continues but there is no sound.

Yesterday, with the battery at approximately 54% (if I
remember correctly), I turned on the Jukebox, and was
asked to resume from the playlist of about 250 songs
that I had been listening to. I didn’t hit any buttons in
time, because I was unravelling my headphones, and
then the machine went to the directory list, and then
shut down. When I turned it on again, I got the Archos
screen, and then 3 loud, annoying warning sirens came
from the machine (I didn’t even know that the machine
could make noise without headphones), and then I got
the “Read Access Error” screen.

Earlier in the day, on my commute, I got the silent
playback problem two times. Once, when the machine
was upright in my pocket, and once when it was lying
flat on the seat of a very still Amtrak train.

Any ideas. I’ve about had it with this product. If I’m
doing something wrong or if you could fix it, that’s
great. Otherwise, I’ve about had it with this thing.

And if I can’t access the hard drive through the USB
tonight when I get home (songs are coincidentally not
backed-up right now…about 1,600 of them) I just may
throw the thing out the window. I can’t imagine the
number of hours of downloading time that will be lost (as
well

Regards.

This report is very old and concerns a Rockbox version from eons ago.

Lots happen in the Rockbox all the time, and if you still have
problems with this matter I suggest you file a new entry.

From your description, I think you have a hardware problem.
The sounds from the jukebox indicate a problem to spin up
the hard drive, and the fact that it suddenly shut off the
recorder indicate a possible bad battery connection.

You need to open up the recorder and check for bad solder
joints.
