FS#1608 - silent play {condition testing:motorcycle}
model #:500277
problem: silent play
unit: archos 20 recorder
rockbox:rel 2.0
contact: mccar098 _AxT_ umn _DxOxT_ edu
I used my new archos this weekend for its intended
purpose upon purchase, as a sound system for my
motorcycle. Depending upon the road quality the unit
seemed to operate perfectly. I ride a sport touring
cycle, so as far as vibrations and motorcycles go it is a
pretty smooth ride. Yet as the trip proceeded and the
roads worsened I started to get the silent play problems
that others have reported. I only seemed to get this
problem while the player was in the map window ontop
of my tank bag. When i moved the unit to my pants
pocket the problem stoped (for the most part).? I
noticed that once the problem started it became
progressivly worse and seemed independent of the
antiskip buffer setting.
I’m not sure if the problem had to do with the heat
generated while in the tank bag or the vibrations there.
Has anyone had sucess receiving a new unit from archos
w/o this issue or is this a problem common to all archos
20 recorders

Unfortunately, there's not much we
can do about vibrations.

You have good chances if that error comes with the original
firmware too, but a new box won’t fix the prolem.
I’m riding cycle too and my solution is to put the archos in the
bag under the hip-belt. In every other place it begins to skip
after a while
