FS#2513 - Support for Shortcut Files
It would be pretty sweet if RockBox supported
shortcuts… then you wouldn’t have to copy the whole
file when you want it in 2+ different folders! It would save
a whole crap load of memory…

FS#1961I wanted to add this request too, but I searched and found it here already.
The lack of host-based support for playlists is the key issue. The iTunes, dreaded as it is, does have a host-based GUI for managing playlists by mouse drop-and-drag. The Rockbox alternative uses the iPod itself with small screen and no mouse - much worse. Rockbox uses the host OS GUI for host management. The host OS does have the solution to managing things like playlists - its the shortcuts (a.k.a. links). If Rockbox firmware understood the shortcut file, then one could just use the OS to manage playlists. Which would be exactly in the spirit of Rockbox.
