FS#276 - File/ directory names unreadable

After I installed the latest update (1.3) on my Archos
Recorder 20gig (JBR 20101). I can't read the file/
directory names anymore. All the character names are
replaced with thinks like: ?f??Ft;?, when I enter a
directory the system seems to hang, although I can still
enter the config mode. (F1)

When I switch back to the latest firmware from Archos I
don't have the problems anymore.

The F1 button works fine, then everything is perfectly
readable.

F2 button doesn't do anything…

F3 button just removes the top info (battery status etc)

I would love to use your firmware, because I am missing
a lot of features on the original firmware.

regards
Pierre

Sounds like a problem with your fat32 filesystem. Does the
same thing happen with the latest daily builds?

Anonymous Submitter commented on 2002-09-23 19:40

Yes, I have tried the one from the 21st, but that one didn't
worked properly either..
How can I fix the fat32 problem? As I don't have this problem
with the original firmware

Your best bet is to repartition and reformat the harddisk.

It would be interesting to see what your disk looks like. You
are not running linux, by any chance?

Anonymous Submitter commented on 2002-09-24 09:41

Nope, I run XP
I tested yesterday the latest build, but still no luck (nice
features in that one btw..
I still get scrambled text in the directories.

Okidoki, so formatting it will be then. I keep you posted.

thanks for the help
