FS#3041 - Recording via optical in/spdif optical

Recording on H 1** is already fantastic since rockbox
showed up.

This feature would make it ultimate.

There is already a spdif analyzer in the debug menu…

The original firmware is so limited. I wish I never
had to use it again.

Do you think it’s possible ?

I would absolutely LOVE for this to be implemented.
The only two time I ever return to the original iRiver firmware is to record and real-time encode MP3s or to record from the optical input.
Please please please some code guru take interest in this fantastic feature!

I really cannot stress enough how important it would be to have this implemented. 16bit/44.1 would be the minimum needed but it would be a real professional tool if it could do 24bit at 44.1/48/96Khz. The only option now for alot of folks is the Microtrack by M-Audio…a nice CF based SPDIF recording device, but far from perfect. It seems like everything is there in the H1XX to do this except the code.

Sorry about that. After I had posted I wanted to edit the comment but couldn’t. I knew it read the wrong way at the end (and piss off the developers). Again, my apologies…..I am truly grateful for the changes that the developers of RB have made to the H1XX DAPs.

Yeah, I’m all for it! In fact, the feature is even described in the manual as active and I,ve bought an older H120 just to use it as an SPDIF recorder…
And yes - it could be great if you implement 96/24 just on optical link. Since it is just the matter of data stream interpretation (i.e. DAC/ADC independent while recording and plaing thru optical links)it wouldn’t be a big deal, would it?
Well, then why not to go a step forward and not to implement a multichanel for SPDIF recording/plaing? So maybe one sumnny day somebody would scratch a code for plaing multichanel for stereo phones on H1xx… :D

SPDIF recording is being developed (slowly) by me right now. A rudimentary patch is available, but there are some bugs I need to get rid of. As for formats, you’ll currently have to be content with 96/16. 20 bits is the maximum possible on H1x0, so you’ll pretty much have to forget anything greater. Even 20 bits isn’t currently possible, since we’d need to create an interrupt based driver for the PCM playback code. Don’t expect too much in the department of multichannel either. Any help on the coding would be appreciated.
