FS#4762 - Random resets when playing while plugged in (USB)

Hi:

I notice that if I start my 5G iPod Video (booting into rockbox), and then plug in the USB cable (holding down the Menu button) and start playing music, eventually the device will suddenly stop, reset, and try to connect to the host machine (Win XP in this case).

sounds like the bug that was fixed with  FS#7691  and no response from reporter.

A little more investigation seems to indicate that the reset only happens after the battery has been fully charged. For example, if the battery is not at 100% and I plug in the USB cable (holding Menu), I can happily play music without problems. When the battery reaches a full charge however, that’s when the device starts periodically resetting itself (as long as it remains plugged into the USB cable).

I get a very similar behaviour with my iPod Mini (2gen);
When plugged into the USB power brick-thingy it does the following steps in a tight loop:
* powers up
* boot screen
* RockBox splash screen
* Shows the files screen for a second
* Shows something that looks like a USB or Firewire symbol
* Powers off with a horrible sound from the harddrive

I wonder if this has anything to do with bug http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/5848

Ciao!

Kevin - is this still happening with the latest bootloader and build?

just stumbled upon this and can confirm that this is still an issue: sometimes my mini reboots into usb mode even when holding down the Menu button while inserting the usb cable. It usually happens within a couple of seconds and doesn’t happen until I let go of the Menu button (when holding it down several seconds to check …)
The charger symbol appears immediately in the status bar, so the power itself is detected.

that title is very misleading when nothing is playing.

although, i have a similar problem, my iPod will work until playback of a song. it’ll play a few seconds, and then it will either crash or give me an error…

souns like the bug which  FS#7691  fixes, please try it out and let us know.
