FS#4878 - Unicode Font with Chinese Characters

I put together a Nimbus-based Unicode font with Chinese characters. It looks great and yet it is only 14 pixels (much smaller than Unifont), so it should be easier to standardize WPS’s around it.

It combines the CJK characters in ttf-arphic-uming(”AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni”) with the ASCII and Latin-1 characters in Nimbus.

Nimbus is part of the default Rockbox builds, and is available here: http://www.rockbox.org/fonts/ ttf-arphic-uming is freely available here: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software_2fCJKUnifonts_2fDownload

(If you have questions about what CJK charsets are supported, please go to ttf-arphic-uming link; this font should support exactly the same ones as in uming.ttf, which can be found in the ttf-arphic-uming tarball)

Sorry, there is a problem with the vertical alignment, so that the Chinese characters are shifted by one pixel.

If someone can fix it (.sfd and .bdf files for Fontforge are in the .zip), please go ahead. (I’m very busy this week!)

Nevermind, here is the fixed version. Please let me know if there are any other problems with the font.

I added Hebrew glyphs and replaced the Cyrillic and Eastern European glyphs with nicer ones. Both were borrowed from Al Le (http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/4971).

The .sfd file isn’t included in the .zip file anymore. It makes the archive huge and it seems to me that the .bdf file already has all that’s needed for viewing/editing in Fontforge.

Hi I tried the font it is much better than unifont for the size but I think 12 or 11 pixel would be more like the size in Apple OS (that looks better).

Is it easy to compile the other sets?

As per Ashen of MisticRiver’s request, here is a version of his MyPod-H WPS that I modified to use this font (nimbus+uming+cyr+heb-14.zip).

Specify the licence of the glyphs you included, would be nice to have more fonts supporting asian characters in
it this license

Seems to me like this has been committed (at least the nimbus+uming-14 has)...
