FS#5180 - The Dock's Line Out does not work
OK, since my feature request has been closed, I try it with a bug report… The Line Out of my Universal Dock does not work if I play music with Rockbox, but with both iPL and the legacy software it works.
Affected: iPod nano 2GB

Your previous feature request didn’t mention the Universal Dock - you were just asking about the line-out in the dock connector (which does work), and general support for accessories (which has already been requested). That’s why I closed it.
It’s curious that the line-out in the Universal Dock works under IPL, but not Rockbox. The only difference I’m aware of between IPL’s handling of the line-out and Rockbox’s is that Rockbox fixes the volume at line-out level, whereas IPL adjusts the volume in tandem with the headphone out.
If you can find the reason it doesn’t work under Rockbox, a patch would be very welcome…
If you could tell me in what files the error could be, I’d do so, but unfortunately, I’m not familiar with the rockbox source.
Can you try your universal dock with the current CVS build? I’ve just added some code which enables the power-out on the dock connector - this was something IPL did, but Rockbox didn’t.
OK, solved. Now the interesting part:
The iPod Radio Remote does NOW WORK, TOO. And for some reasons, it’s volume control does work, too. Maybe it comunicates directly with the Codec. That’s great. The only strange thing about it that it does not work immediately. It seems to take a few seconds for initialization. Maybe it’s time to make Rockbox recognize the other instructions which can be sent to the iPod (like Skip Track, Pause, Forward etc.) Great job, but are you sure it won’t toast my Radio ;)
Another thought: There was a patch for the 4g to have a seperate setting for the Dock’s lineout volume. Is it gone?? I can’t find it anymore :((((
Glad it’s working.
I can’t remember a patch to give a separate volume setting to the Dock’s line-out. Rockbox used to adjust the line-out volume to the same level as the headphone volume, but it was decided that Rockbox should fix it at 0dB - i.e. make the line-out a true line-out, so that feature was removed. If you can argue a case for it being returned, please post another feature request.
