I’ve created an account now.

After reading the manual, I realized I should fill in more information.

Exact model from the back of the ipod: 60GB
Exact ROM firmware: Video
Rockbox version: CVS-060501
Step-by-step: Get a directory with 436 songs in it, play a song, hit ‘menu’, playlist options, view current playlist, scroll up and down.

Do it a little bit, the song keeps playing.
Do it a bit more, the song stops for a second.
Do it a lot, the song cuts out for 10 seconds-ish.
Keep fiddling with it, the panic message occurs.
This time, it just froze with the backlight on; rebooting cleared the problem.

have you tried increasing the dir buffer? General Settings → System → Limits → Max Files in Dir Browser. Default value is 400, so with your 436 songs you’re beyond this.

Even if it’s only a draft for now, please take a look in the manual first on such problems.

Oh, I thought the crash was unrelated, but I thought I’d mention the number of files anyway.

I guess a new feature request would be for RockBox to update the limit by itself.

In any event, should it crash? Does this happen for directories of 300 entries? I’m going to find out….

I split the directory, it still crashes.

Rockbox is never going to update the limit by itself because the limit requires a reboot to be increased, and the current method provides a way for a user to forcibly limit how much of their RAM is used (”wasted” in some peoples’ views) on a directory buffer. You can have better battery life by keeping the number small, and splitting your files.

As for the crash, I’m not sure why the stkov happens in ata, but the stuttering is related to the fact that our button driver still needs some work.

I’m experiencing the same, using rockbox-ipodvideo-20060503.zip on my video ipod 60GB.
I don’t think is has anything to do with how many files in playlist. My current is about 40 tracks (can’t scrool the full way down because it seem to crash around 27). The crash happens however slow I try to scrool.

It get the same message

Please recheck if the problem persists.

Note that the limits on playlist size and on directory size are unrelated; nevertheless, both ought to be respected.

Hey, whaddya know, it’s fixed!

I can make the music pause briefly by scrolling quickly, but it doesn’t crash anymore!

I’m using CVS-060812.
