FS#5275 - Enable remote button press to trigger remote backlight while hold button is on.

On the remote recording screen of the H1xx I would like to be able to trigger the remote backlight while the hold button is on.

I understand that this may be counter-intuitive(the hold button should..errr…hold, right?), but there is a method to my madness:

While recording in a dark environment I would like to be able to optionally monitor the peak meters (ie trigger remote backlight at my discretion with a button press) without accidentally changing any recording settings. Currently I have to flick the hold switch off then on again to trigger the backlight. With my clumsy fingers this risks accidentally hitting other buttons in the process, with undesirable results (like stopping the recording).

Ideally, I’d love to see this option committed to CVS, but I understand that this might not be desired by the masses, so if not, could some kind soul look at writing a patch for it, especially for me and my taper friends?

It has been suggested that I enable backlight to be always on, but this chews battery needlessly and renders the usually very useful clipping light useless.

I’m not sure if I’ve categorised this request correctly (I tossed a coin between UI, remote & recording), so please feel free to move it.
