FS#5739 - No Bootloader link in "Manual" PDF
If you follow the instructions to install Rockbox from the PDF, (http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipod4gray-20060729.pdf), then you’re told to download a file from http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation/bootloader-4g.bin
This wouldn’t actually be a problem, except the file isn’t there. Obviously anyone trying to install rockbox on an ipod won’t be able to do so.
Any ideas where I can actually get this file, now?
Thanks.

This appears to be a problem introduced by recent changes to the twiki software - it doesn’t seem to like external links to attachments.
You can download the bootloader-4g.bin file by going to this page:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation
and then clicking on the bootloader-4g.bin link in the table at the bottom of the page.
Would any wiki admins like to comment? If there is a reason for disabling external links to attachments, then maybe the ipod (and other targets?) installation files could be moved to http://download.rockbox.org
I think the disabling of external links to attachments was made to make our site less attractive to all the spammers who attach weird stuff and link directly to that.
Since we’ve been disscussing putting binary bootloaders out of the (user-modifiable) twiki anyway, I think putting them on download.rockbox.org is a fine idea. I’ll get on the job soonish!
there was already a task for this … it would be useful if you actually _searched_ the tracker for already submitted bugs.
As this one has more information I closed the older on. See
FS#5714.Also, if a link from the manual is broken just try looking in the wiki for the file(s). Shouldn’t be too hard.
Bootloaders can now be downloaded directly from:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/
I just changed the Install chapter to link to bootloaders on this location.
