FS#5832 - no "remote" in iPod?

Well, I am not completely sure this is a bug, perhaps someone can explain and chastise me to their heart’s content… What Rockbox website says, is that remote control is supported for iPod. Well, I use the iJet wireless remote control. It has a receiver that plugs into the headphones sockets on top of the iPod (the receiver has a headphone socket too so that is not lost). The transmitter sends the signals to the receiver, that part is out of iPod’s control, then the receiver does “something” with the headphone interface, to make the iPod behave as if its button were pressed.

It works like a dream, but with Rockbox, it does not. I press a button on the transmitter, nothing happens. Why? Are only remotes wired to the bottom supported? Are only Apple remotes supported? Or is this a DOA feature?

not a bug.

Additionally, when reading this task as a feature request it\'s a duplicate of the often requested support for ipod accessories.

Where on the website does it say that remote control is supported for iPod? This is a mistake, so if you could point it out perhaps we could fix it.

If you’ll notice in that chart the only table that mentions the remote is comparing it the the Archos and the H100. For the Apple it does not say anything about remotes.

None of those pages state that Rockbox supports the Ipod remote control.

The first page certainly does not (nothing about remote in the Apple section), the second page simply states that there is a remote control for the Ipod - it is a page detailing the hardware of each player.

I see. My bad, I apologise for bothering you.

I am not the only one who went astray though, on the Wikipedia page about Rockbox, that is where I originally found the information, it says in Features: “Remote control (supporting devices)”. I should edit that page?

Rockbox supports the official remotes on devices that are packaged with a remote. It also strives to support remotes, and the iPod one probably will be in the future, but it very definitely is not yet.

Does that wikipedia page say specifically that it supports iPod remotes?

Well, it says “supporting devices”, which means “if the device itself supports the feature”. iPod 4th Gen Grayscale does support the remote control. But no, the Wikipedia does not say specifically about iPod, just general.

I don’t believe iPods come with a remote. At the moment, the only remotes we have supported are those devices that support and include one in the box.

You may wish to edit the wikipedia entry, but I think that should be read as “On the Rockbox devices where remotes are supported by Rockbox” rather than “By devices that support a remote” as it would be physically impossible to support all remotes the instant Rockbox is available on a device, and our nowhere in our documentation does it say the iPod remotes are supported.
