FS#601 - Failures when drive energizes....
I see many blaming Rockbox for bugs because their
box crashes when the drive starts. These units are
starting to get old enough the heavy way we play them
where it’s time to test batteries. Archos power
management sucks, being nice. Computers were
never intended to run off AA cells. ONE questionable
cell in the stack of 4 will cause the dropouts you’re
reporting.
The simple solution is to install the 4 extra cells
Archos sent you, charge ‘em up, and see if that fixes
it. If it does, one of the cells is weak you took out. If
you don’t have the cells, go to Radio Shack, Circuit
City, Best Buy and buy the highest capacity AA Nickel-
Metal Hydride cells they have. New cells are 1700 to
1800 maH. Do NOT use Ni-Cd and NEVER ALKALINE
WHICH WILL DESTROY THE ARCHOS! 1.5V cells are
DEATH!
