FS#6020 - Playback buffering fails with low bitrate files

hi devs!

i had a problem yesterday with my iriver H140 using rockbox daily from the 14th of september.
i started listening to some songs (ogg vorbis) in a directory (no playlist)… skipped a few… listened again… and suddenly the wps froze and playback stopped… the HD was running permanently but playback didnt continue :(
so i pressed the stop-button… and it took at least 5 (!) seconds to return to
file selection.

No recent reports of problem.

Is this related to your  FS#5968 ?
sounds like the same symptoms…

Which WPS are you using, btw?

no, not really. in  FS#5968  i STARTED to play a sid file and the wps froze.
and the other bug was that when i already listened to some songs (this time ogg), skipped a few,
listened again, i had those breaks. and no freeze. but it seemed that all went veeeery slow
afterwards. as i pressed stop it took approx. 5 seconds to return to file selection again.
btw, im using my own wps (GBlaster; you can find it in the wps gallery, pretty close to the bottom).

Is this still happening? There have been some improvements to playback buffer stability lately thanks to me and pondlife.

well… by now i cant really say because i didnt test it “to the bones” (is there such an expression?) ;) … ill
hopefully do so the next days.

I have the same problems you describe on my X5.
It’ll only occur with low bitrated files that are 40/50 kbps.
The hard disk keeps spinning because it can’t fully load the codec buffer without a pcm buffer under run so it keeps spinning until the codec buffer is full.
This can take a while because the cpu is heavily used by playing the file.
Looks like a fault in the codec or something.

is this still an issue?

Not for me.
It disappeared a while ago.
