FS#6073 - iPod 3G pausing during song
Hi guys. I got an iPod 3g which I got the latest rockbox software on, and what happends is during a song every 30sec or so it pauses for a moment (1-3 sec) then plays song again, regardless what I change the anti-skip buffer too.
Info says I got 30mb free, an ideas?

What build are you using? What file format?
Sounds like a performance issue – have you read the IpodFaq wiki page?
I wasnt sure what too check for in the wiki faq (now that you bring up performance issue)
the file formats are all .mp3 and its the rockbox-ipod3g-20060925.zip build i tried at first
Please read this wiki page (in case you haven’t done yet):
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodFAQ#Playback_is_glitchy_skips
- are you using peak meters? Turn them off (i.e. use a theme without peak meters, iCatcher for example)
- are you using the equalizer? Turn it off.
- can you tell us a bit more about your files? What bitrate? To quote the wiki: Higher bitrate MP3s especially have these problems, as well as higher bitrate AAC files.
- ive tried themes without peak metres (like the rockbox one that only has the song name)
- no equalizers, everything is at default like when installed
- they vary, but between 128-192, some 224kbps. most are 128!
After asking the devs in #rockbox: this is a performance issue. The 3G isn’t as fast as the other ipods and currently the 2nd processor isn’t used. You need to use a file format that works better (for example ogg afaik) or wait until the 2nd processor gets used.
Btw, I don’t know of any “rockbox one” theme that has only the song name. The default theme has peak meters.
I tried what you suggested and it improved it ‘slightly’ but every so-often it does still skip. I’ll prob stick with the appleOS until both processors are utilized?
