FS#6112 - Freeze on boot when battery is low

My current build on my player is from September 11, 2006. I believe this occured before I upgraded to that build (which is the reason I upgraded).

I hit record+play on the remote to boot the original firmware, and the screen comes up on the player (not on the remote) saying “loading original firmware” (or something to that effect) with a few rockbox details in the upper corner(s). There is nothing I can do at that point. I seeminly must wait until the battery expires (I have not attempted to plug the player in while it is in this state which would add to the de-charging time).

I BELIEVE this has occurred only when the player’s battery is relatively low; the last time it happened I checked and it was just about an hour after I pressed play before the battery died, which should have been plenty of charge to run the player at least briefly without problem, but I could be wrong.

I have had other minor bootloader issues but I have yet to document them. This one has occured at least 4 times, possibly more. I have upgraded to today’s build. This is an intermittent issue and sometimes the player starts up absolutely fine. Again, the low-ish battery may or may NOT be a contributing factor.

not really anything that can be done about this…

Yes, it looks like the battery level is a factor.

Next time it happens, use the reset button instead of waiting for the battery to run out.

I considered that, but I wasn’t entirely sure if that simply reset the player, or if it actual reset any settings or anything anything to defaults. Do you happen to know where the reset is on an H140? I have never used it.

Is there any potential fix for this in the works, and will the reset button likely reset the player to working status? or will it continue to freeze on startup until recharged? Thanks. :)

There is no potential fix in the works.

The reset button is in a tiny hole next to the USB connector, and it only resets the CPU. All your files will stay intact.
