FS#8113 - More Playback Freezing on the Sansa e200

r15520
Sansa e200

Playback is freezing when switching between songs (no longer in the middle of songs). I have tried to reproduce this many times but seems to be quite random. Sometimes it’s the very first song after a reboot, sometimes it takes a lot of changing between songs, but it happens consistently if you continue to persist with switching between directories and playing random songs (I have MP3, FLAC and WAV files on my player if this could make any difference).

Some Qualities:

- More than once I went to check the Debug→View Buffering Thread screen and saw that the bottom 3 bars were maxed out.

- As previously there is still menu control after freezing, but it also still requires a long-power reboot regardless.

- More than once when I hit the “stop” button on the WPS screen after freezing the entire unit locked up and required a long-power reboot.

Reason for closing:  Fixed

I've been playing around some more and still can't come up with a good reproduction recipe, but the general pattern seems to be that larger files bring it to lock-up faster. Another noted quality is that on occasion when you switch to a new song it will seem as though the playback has frozen for a few seconds but then there is a rather large *click* and the song begins playing.

Can you reproduce this at all if you only use one codec? i.e. Play a selection of FLAC files, and ensure there are only FLAC files in the directories involved.

Short answer: no.

1) Flipped through a large selection of different FLAC files in different directories without a freeze-up. Then played a WAV file, heard a large *click* but the song played. Followed that by playing an MP3 or two and the unit froze.

2) Flipped through a large selection of different MP3 files in different directories without a freeze-up. Then played a FLAC file and had no problems. But one or two more back-and-forths between MP3 & FLAC froze it up.

This is fixed for me (you guys are truly awesome). Flipped through all kinds of stuff in the same way I was before and not a single freeze or *click*. In fact, it seems to get to the new song faster than ever. Bigup yerselves.

Unsure whether or not to send a closure request, as it's possible that more glitches arise. What's the protocol on that?

I'm closing it. If this issue reappears, request a reopen. If a different one appears, open a new task.
