FS#8787 - Crossfade stuttering, data abort and other bugs
I was very happy with rockbox r13054-070407: it never crashed, allowed gapless playback, using the vorbis file format, and crossfading (also between mp3 and ogg) on my iPod nano (1st generation). I used it for almost a year at about 2 hours per week on average.
Now with rockbox r16727-080321 and a built from a week or so before I have stuttering in the transition between mp3 and ogg (as described in FS#8597 ) and had several crashes. The first two happened within an hour and one crash was preceded by strange noises from the player. There was a larger audience, which is why I quickly restarted the player and do not recall the error messages, but they were two of quite different kinds. Yesterday in a test run I had “data abort at 400002E0 (0)”. In the similar bug description FS#8692 Marc Guay replies “random errors happen from time to time with any machine”, but I’d rather not have my player crash, of course.
I’m happy with the old r13054-070407, but I’m also keen on using up-to-date software. Anyway I’d like to a) thank the rockbox team for their great work! and b) maybe try a newer built soon and try to track down the problem. My crossfade settings are:
crossfade: always
crossfade fade in duration: 6
crossfade fade out duration: 6

If there are already tasks open which describe the problems you’re having, why open a new one? (P.S. the important part of the comment I made on #8692 was “can you reproduce this?”)
Maybe I thought my problem was to individual to be handled as an addition, maybe I wanted to avoid having to write two additions, or maybe I was just stupid… sorry. In any case I was in a hurry this morning and indeed was late for my mum’s easter lunch. But now I added comments to the two relevant tasks.
I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, it just helps to have information about an issue in one place instead of two.
