FS#9541 - FLAC+CUE hang on "Loading..." under some circumstances

Some FLAC+CUE albums on my 5G 30 gig Video iPod hung on “Loading…” every time I tried to play them from a stopped state. The workaround was to play them while another FLAC or MP3 file was playing. (I didn’t try with other types.)

Disabling CUE support or moving the CUE file elsewhere also made them play properly. I tried to experiment with CUE file content and I got confusing and inconclusive results. However, replacing the CUE file with an identical copy fixed the problem.

I never got read errors on original CUE file and the file could be viewed. I just scanned the hard drive for file system and read errors with “chkdsk /r” on Windows Vista and no errors were found. SMART data in iPod diagnostics shows 0 pending sectors and 0 reallocs.

I am currently running r19090. The problem was also present in r18760.

The problem does not happen anymore. I guess other changes fixed it.

I have something similar on my Fuze v1 with r22524-090829.

I tried FLAC+CUE, and APE+CUE with cuesheet support enabled. And both files reads fine with the firts tracks then hang on, but I can’t say why. It seems to happen when you go over the 20/22th minute of the file - every time.
With cuesheet support disabled the files plays nice all along.

The workarounds proposed by Boris Gjenero doesn’t work on my Fuze.

sciopath, I suspect that the bug you encountered is not related to the bug I originally reported here. I never had a lockup during playback of FLAC+CUE. It always happened when I started playing a file, while the “Loading” popup was displayed. Also, the lockups I experienced were not that repeatable; simply replacing the CUE file with an identical copy often fixed the problem. I haven’t encountered the bug in a long time, and with all the changes that happened, maybe it does not exist anymore. (So, I’m not sure: should I close this task?)

Can you post a CUE file which triggers this problem?
