FS#9765 - "Beep" sounds very distorted and fuzzy.

After upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1, the “Beep” sound (enabled in Settings / Playback Settings / Beep Volume) now sounds very distorted and fuzzy.

It sounds this way on any setting. Strong, Moderate or Weak and with the player’s volume on any setting. It definitely sounded like a normal clean beep with 3.0

This is on an 80gb Ipod 5.5 with Rockbox r19569-081223

I’m not sure if this should be under “Music Playback”, as I don’t seem to hear the distortion and fuzziness when playing mp3’s.

I also noticed a more raspy, distorted and fuzzy Beep sound on the Sansa e200 series - current daily builds since around the same time. I figured it was my imagination until I read your post.

The pitch has changed since some keyclick related fixups because the frequency wasn’t what was specified. I thought I’d let someone else adjust it if they don’t like the different pitch. Waveform and amplitude should be identical.

Michael Sevakis> This isn’t the keyclick, this is the beep sound played optionally when skipping tracks, etc. Whatever the reason, it is not the pitch that sounds different now from version 3.0. It now sounds badly resampled or distorted or something. I hope that helps…

I’m actually concerned that fast forwarding or rewinding during playback will now induce a beep sound that can damage my earbuds or ears. Its not a pleasant sound, and might be clipping the speakers.
