FS#993 - ID3v2 Tag with Covers isn't displayed

I’ve got many MP3‘s with covers included (with the
Cover&Tag plugin). There is no problem to display
the ID3v2 Tag in Winamp or others players, but
RockBox doesn’t display this tag.
You can easily test this. Take any MP3, include a cover
with Cover&Tag plugin and copy this file to your Archos
(I’ve got a Player). The ID3v2 Tag isn’t displayed,
only the filename is scrolled.

I'm closing this report. If you really want Rockbox to
combine V1 and V2 tags, please file a Feature Request.

Do you really expect the Player to display cover art on its 2-
line character display?

I don’t expect the cover to be displayed, only the artist and
title should be displayed from the ID3v2 Tag

This is a short example, ID3v1 & ID3v2 Tag with cover and
without.
File (1) - this is the file with Cover - Both ID3 Tags are ignored
File (2) - File without cover - ID3 Tag is displayed

I could not attach the files to this comment, i opened a new
Bug with the 2 files attached (as a rar file) which does not
work. (699828 ] Attached Files for [ 695488 ] ID3v2 Tag with
Covers) -The File was too large (1,5 MB)!

Please try again to upload only the file with the cover.

As far as I can see, that plugin replaces the ID3V2 tag with
a new one containing only the cover image and no artist
information, and depends on having the artist information in
the ID3V1 tag.

Rockbox ignores the V1 tag if there is a V2 tag present.

I suggest that you use a plugin that does things properly.

I created a new thread #695488 with a new file. In fact, it
seems that the plugin replaces the i3dv2 tag. But Winamp
displays Artist and Title information in the id3 tag editor for
both v1 and v2 tag. I used tag&rename to display the tags,
and that’s the problem. winamp does not display the v2 tag
correctly. it is empty. It’s no bug in rockbox. But is it possible
for rockbox to behave like winamp? get the title information
from v1 tag if v2 tag is empty?
