12700RockboxBugsMusic playbackLowCrash when stopping playback of ogg vorbis files2012-06-18 Task Description

Rockbox crashes when stopping playback of ogg vorbis files. This happens both, when I stop playback through long pressing the play button or simply if the last track in the current playlist is finished. It does not happen when stopping playback of mp3 files. Pausing does not cause a crash, only stopping does.

I reported this problem already in  FS#12669  which was closed since it was asserted to be fixed, but it wasn't and isn't fixed for me.

The bug occured in version 688302a of 04/08 13:15. All earlier versions (tested back to bb0e4cc of 04/05) are working and later versions are crashing. I just tested current version e5d6e42 and Rockbox still crashes.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.3.7 (CyanogenMod CM7.2.0)

In the settings the current setting value is not highlighted, so the present status cannot be recognized (e.g. No/Yes in Settings→Playback Settings→Shuffle).

This regression has been introduced in version 688302a of April 8 11:15. In version a12b2a5 of April 8, 9:46 the current setting is still highlighted

I enclose two screen captures showing the difference for better understanding.

The settings submenu with the playlist viewer settings like “show icons”, “show indices” and “track display” to select between file name only and full path for playlist entries is not available in the playlist viewer menu in the Android version.

So these settings cannot be changed.

This happens in all version I tried until now (latest was a12b2a5).

In Rockbox for Android it is not possible to highlight an entry in a list without selecting (entering) it.

For example, if I am in the playlist viewer showing the list of just playing songs with my ipod (running rockbox) I was able to scroll through the list which moved the higligting bar through the list and then I could select the desired entry by pressing enter. With the touchscreen I found no way only to highlight a certain entry.

This is important if all entries are very long and have the same starting text. For example "Ludwig von Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 - 1. Adagio" cannot be distinguished from "Ludwig von Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 - 2. Andante" in the playlist viewer since the distinguishing part is cut off. With my ipod I could highlight the entries with the scroll wheel and the highlighted line started horizontally scrolling so I could see the complete text. With the Android port I can only touch the line, but touching the line does not only highlight it but also selects it and so starts playing.

This problem also exists in other list with long entries and happens with all version I compiled until now (latest was a12b2a5).

I use Rockbox for Android since some time now on my Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.3.6.

The behavior of the hardware back key has been changed in some of the last versions. Usually, when pressing the hardware back key rockbox goes up e.g. one menu level or it leaves the wps screen to the browse menu. Now when pressing the hardware back key rockbox exits the application so you can’t use this key any longer to go back through the browse menus.

I use at the moment version a12b2a5 which has the old (and correct?) behavior. Version c9c1349 has e.g. the new (wrong?) behavior.

Since version 688302a Rockbox for Android crashes on long pressing the play button (I use only ogg vorbis files). All earlier versions (tested back to bb0e4cc of 04/05) are working and all later versions are crashing.

Version d29a11b crashes rockbox on my Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.3.6 as soon as I try to play any song (I use only ogg vorbis files).

I looked through the change logs and found that in version c9bcbe2 it was stated "Fundamentally rewrite much of the audio DSP". In order to test if this change my be the reason for the crash I first compiled version c9c1349 which was immediately commited before c9bcbe2 and in this version playback still works. Then I compiled c9bcbe2 and rockbox crashes as soon as I try to play any song. So it seems that version c9bcbe2 introduced a severe bug (at least for playing ogg vorbis files on my device).

7828 RockboxFeature RequestsID3 / meta dataLow Playlist viewer should show tags instead of file names  ...2007-09-244 Task Description

In my opinion rockbox should have an option whether in the playlist viewer the file names or the tags, e.g. in a format like "title (artist)", should be displayed. As database only user I would never want to see the file name and if someone is using iTunes for synchronising then he would even end up with the totally unusuable 4-letter file names.

There was previoulsy a patch in flyspray ( FS#6084 ) which was rejected and closed but which I still use in amended form since without the playlist viewer is really not usuable to me. With this patch not the file name but the tag is shown in the playlist viewer. Hower, this patch has some drawbacks and there should probably a complete new solution developed for this problem.

Since there is already an option whether the whole path or only the file name without path is shown in the playlist viewer, I (and I guess all database users) would really appreciate if there was a third option to use the tags instead of the file names. Either a fixed format could be used like "title (artist)" or, as long-term objective a desired display format could be specified in the options (or in a config file) like it is possible for the wps.

7624 RockboxFeature RequestsPlaylistsLow Enable "View current playlist" for finished dynamic pla ...2007-08-19 Task Description

When the dynamic playlist is finished (by playing the last song of the playlist to its end) the “View current playlist” menu item does no longer show a list of tracks of the dynamic playlist but only a message “No playlists”. However, the dynamic playlist still exists until it is overwritten by a new dynamic playlist (since it is possible to save it by using “Save current playlist” even after the dynamic playlist has been finished).

It would be great if the “View current playlist” menu item would work even after the dynamic playlist has been finished since in this way one could restart the dynamic playlist or simply check which songs were played.

Since the “Save current playlist” menu item _does_ work even after the dynamic playlist is finished it would even be more consistent if the “View current playlist” would also still work after the dynamic playlist is finished.

7362 RockboxPatchesID3 / meta dataLow Support for GROUPING tag 2007-06-2673 Task Description

This patch adds support for the GROUPING tag which is usually used for grouping titles of multi part works (e.g. classical works like symphonies or sonatas). It supports id3v2.2 (TT1), id3v2.3 and id3v2.4 (TIT1), mp4 (cgrp) and vorbis comments (GROUPING as used by MusicBrainz, CONTENTGROUP as used by MP3Tag and CONTENT GROUP as used by foobar2000). In WPS you can use %iG and %IG. As tagnavi.conf tags “grouping” and “contentgroup” are supported but not “content group” due to the space in the middle.

In addition, when building the database and a track doesn’t have a grouping tag, it copies the value from the title tag. This should make browsing through classcical works in the database a bit nicer since you will find all your music, not only titles having the grouping tag explicitely set (similar to the recent albumartist improvement). You need to rebuild your database to actually see any change.

7342 RockboxPatchesID3 / meta dataLow Improve use of ALBUMARTIST tag 2007-06-2262 Task Description

This patch enables that in the Rockbox database the ALBUMARTIST tag is set to the value of the ARTIST tag of a track if the ALBUMARTIST tag is not set in the music file.

With this amendement it is no longer necessary to tag ALL your files with an ALBUMARTIST tag in order to have a browse structure like “albumartist→album→title” for ALL your albums. You need only to tag the tracks of various artists albums with ALBUMARTIST=various or of albums for which ALBUMARTIST differs from ARTIST for another reason (e.g. albums of a certain artist on which e.g. one song is a duet with another artist (all songs except the duet have ARTIST=artist1 and the duet has ARTIST=artist1 & artist2).

In addition, ALBUMARTIST support for MP4 tags and APE tags has been added (but without testing since I don’t have MP4 and APE files).

6647 RockboxBugsLanguageLow New label "Album-Künstler" in deutsch.lang not in utf-8 2007-02-11 Task Description

In deutsch.lang the label for the album artist tag “Album-Künstler” seems not to be in utf-8 encoded since the “ü” is not correctly shown. And shouldn’t the new entries be at the end of the file? There was a commit for the English version which moved the new parts to the end of english.lang.

6638 RockboxPatchesID3 / meta dataLow Album artist and comment patch for WPS and tagcache 2007-02-0922 Task Description

Based on the comment patch from Nicolas Pennequin (see http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/2974) I created a patch to enable usage of the albumartist tag and the comment tag for both displaying in the WPS as well as using as filter and conditional in tagnavi.config.

If you set the albumartist tag e.g. to Various for all tracks of compilations and to the track artist for all tracks of non compilation albums you can easily create a “browse by albumartist” menu item in tagnavi.conf which shows only artists who have their own album (which usually reduces the length of the artist list a lot).

Example: “Album artist” → albumartist ? albumartist != “Various” → album → title

You can also create a Compilation menu item with: “Compilations” → album ? albumartist == “Various” → title

For mp3 files you have to set the BAND tag (TP2/TPE2) which is commonly used for album artist.

Since for ogg vorbis and flac files no single standard tag exist, the patch reads the tags ALBUMARTIST, ALBUM ARTIST (with one space inbetween) and ENSEMBLE which are the most commonly used tags for album artist. Each of these tags will be recognized by the patch.

In tagnavi.config you have to use albumartist or ensemble as filter or in conditionals. album artist (with space) is not possible since spaces are used as delimiter between tags. Both of albumartist and ensemble will work in tagnavi.config, it doesn’t matter whether you tag your ogg/flac files with an ALBUMARTIST, ALBUM ARTIST or ENSEMBLE tag.

In WPS the album artist can be displayed with %iA

The comment tag can e.g. be used for titles of classical pieces (like “Symphony Nr. 9”) if more than one piece are on an album. In tagnavi.config simply use comment as filter or in a conditional. In WPS use %iC to display the comment. Of course you can use the comment tag to store whatever you want.
