In the Blackjack game, when the dealer has blackjack, the player still gets the option to split after they have lost!

9099 RockboxBugsThemesLow Updates breaks WPS 2008-06-172 Task Description

My WPS is not broken because of recent updates.

This is probably associated with updates to r17723 or maybe even as far back as r17698 (I don't know)

tested on my latest WPS (which was perfectly fine until i updated recently):

WpsIpod5g#Molten_Cobalt

9079 RockboxFeature RequestsThemesLow Images for peak meter(s) - much like the progress bar 2008-06-07 Task Description

It would be cool to be able to assign images to the peak meter(s). It would work much in the same way as the progress bar.

It would also be cool if the meter could be controlled to expand vertically and not just horizontally (or both!) - this goes too for the peak meter.

9074RockboxFeature RequestsThemesLowViewPort vertical alignment2008-06-051 Task Description

Add an tag to the viewports that allow text/items to be aligned
top/centre/bottom (vertical alignment)

Currently, it is possible to align left/centre/right (horizontal alignment)

The main reason I want to do this is to centre fonts in the middle of a viewport to allow my WPS to allow for multiple fonts - all lined up correctly. I’m sure there can be many other uses

9073 RockboxBugsThemesLow Disappearing album art with viewports 2008-06-05301 Task Description

I have just converted my WPS to use viewports for every line due to the lack of right margins, to make setting out easier and to allow for the possibility of different fonts without affecting the position of the text.

One thing i have noticed (and I’m not surprised) is that using viewports makes things slower - metadata takes longer to display (with more disk access needed) and album art is included in this delay. This might be another bug associated with ViewPorts doing too much (or an optimisation issue), but I’m not sure.

The main problem i have noticed is that sections of my album art sometimes disappear, especially when i lock the device, insert a USB cable (before rockbox reboots), or the disk access icon pops up.

These sections missing line up (y-value) with viewports to the right of the album art (I haven’t tried to the left), and the missing section is usually the height of one of the viewport it is lining up with. Sometimes, the missing section is that between two viewports (with the height of the missing section being that between the two viewports).

While this is occurring, the viewport lining up with the missing section disappears too.

Attached are screendumps and my wps file.

Please note that i have intentionally blurred sections of the screendump because i am not ready to release my WPS (if ever).
I have also edited out the WPS to make it easier to read (it is still functional…except for the bug)

I am using revision 17690 on an iPod 5.5G 30Gb

9030 RockboxBugsCodecsLow Mod player data abort 2008-05-2310 Task Description

I get a Data abort at 4000D8C0 (0) every time i try to play a mod file (tested with the mods from Unreal Gold) on my iPod 5G 30gb

8930 RockboxFeature RequestsDatabaseLow Only show track number if more than 1 disk hasn't been  ...2008-04-236 Task Description

Currently, if a song has any metadata about disk numbers, the database will show [diskNumber].(trackNumber).(SongTitle) in the album view.

If there is only 1 disk in the album or more than 1 disk hasn't been specified, then the diskNumber should not be shown in the album view
(ie. the track data (of one or more tracks) only contains 1 disk or 1/1 disks).

This will eliminate the problem of some tracks having the disk numbers while others haven't if the metadata hasn't been completed or specified for every track in the album.
It will also improve readability of the track numbers for albums with only one disk.

8798 RockboxFeature RequestsThemesLow WPS - Progressive battery and volume meters 2008-03-25 Task Description

Add support for progressive battery and volume meters, much like the song progress bar works (with a single image).

This will cut down on the number of images needed and will give a more accurate reading.

If possible, allow the bar to progress (reveal itself) in either the vertical direction or the horizontal direction (or possibly both for some possible interesting circular/square themes. Possibly extend the syntax to allow progression in other directions for the current song progress bar too.

8774 RockboxBugsDatabaseLow MP4 Video in the database 2008-03-212 Task Description

Currently, the database will add any supported media files.

Unfortunately, this also includes MP4 video files.

the database should ignore MP4 video.

I have realised that will some MP4 Video files, the database does ignore.

Maybe it’s a problem with MediaCoder and some other encoders?

If so, then how do you fix this?

If not, it should be fixed in rockbox.

8773 RockboxFeature RequestsMusic playbackLow "Shuffle" button 2008-03-218 Task Description

It would be cool if there was a “shuffle” button to quickly play music starting with a random track instead of going to the database, enabling shuffle, and pressing on a random song.

This would work like it does in the apple firmware

8772 RockboxFeature RequestsMusic playbackLow Option to not shuffle for albums 2008-03-213 Task Description

It would be nice if there was an option to choose not to shuffle albums when shuffle is on so that selecting an album will play it in the order of that album (provided the correct tags are on the files, of course)

8676 RockboxFeature RequestsThemesLow Right margin 2008-03-03 Task Description

The left margin has been implimented quite well.

All my theme needs for completion is a right margin.

I know there is a patch avalible, but obviously this isnt adequate, so I post this request to remind us to work on it :)

8492 RockboxBugsUser InterfaceLow Mis-alignment of track info screen selection bar 2008-01-21 Task Description

Upon scrolling to the bottom of the Track Information screen, it is still possible to scroll down one extra line after scrolling past the “path” item and its respective line below it. Scrolling up after this will result in mis-alignment of the selection bar by one line. This can be fixed by scrolling to the top (which produces another mis-alignment by one more line).

Also, as part of this bug (I think), upon scrolling to the top, if one keeps scrolling, it will jump down to the bottom, but not the other way round. i.e. scrolling past the bottom will not jump to th top

8217 RockboxBugsThemesLow Cyan colour is almost white in colour when displayed on ...2007-11-24 Task Description

The colour:
R: 0
G: 255
B: 255
Hex: 00ffff
Cyan?

Comes out as:
R: 248
G: 252
B: 248
Hex: f8fcf8
Almost White?

in the WPS and possibly in other places too. Is this caused by a bug or because of the lack of support for this colour on the device?

This occurs both in the UI Simulator and in the Builds

8114 RockboxBugsMusic playbackLow Scrolling on semitone pitch bend does not work 2007-11-08 Task Description

Scrolling through the semitone pitch bending does not work on my iPod. It does through the regular pitch bend, but not the semi-tone. The scroll wheen constantly needs to be hit in the correct direction to get it to move. I have been meaning to report this for some time, but never got round to it.

Continuous scrolling also stops playback, just like it does for the regular pitch bend (I assume this is normal)

On another note, maybe "playback speed" would be a better name for the menu than 'pitch' , even though both are modified in the process. I always thought of a dying tape recorder, which slows down and consequently the pitch is lowered.

8105 RockboxBugsUser InterfaceLow Hitting "back" in context menu to go to previous catego ...2007-11-074 Task Description

The interface would be a lot more symmetrical if hitting back (on the iPod, hitting the rewind key) would go to the previous sub-menu of the context menu interface instead of the original screen in which the context menu was activated. Of course, if there is no previous sub-menu, then it can return to the original menu.

Hitting forwards goes to the next sub-menu, so I don’t see why hitting back shouldn’t go to the previous sub-menu!

example:

WPS
“long hold” → context menu
highlight “Bookmarks” Hit “forward” → “Bookmarks sub-menu” (oops! unintended)
Hit “back” → “context menu” (ah, better! now I can select what I really wanted)

instead of

Hit “back” → “WPS” (on the sub-menu)

once again, hitting back in the context menu to return to the WPS feels natural, but hitting back within a context menu sub-menu would feel more natural if it returned back to the context menu.

8095 RockboxBugsThemesLow Incorrect song position display on WPS 2007-11-056 Task Description

I have tested this on my iPod 30GB 5G. I don’t know if the same problem occurs on other players.

When a song is mid-way through playing and stop is pressed (long hold of the play/pause key) the song stops and returns to the menu.

However, pressing “resume playback” will start the song again, but the position of the song will read the same time as the place it was last stopped.

The remaining time displayed will be the remaining time that was previously + the duration of the song.

To reproduce:

1. Play a song part-way (you can fast-forward a bit if you want)
2. Press STOP
3. Press “Resume Playback” on the menu

7961 RockboxFeature RequestsFM TunerLow Radio support for iPod 2007-10-15 Task Description

There is a radio accessory for iPods, and I read that the PortalPlayer has integrated FM radio support on-board, so would it be possible to support FM Radio on the iPod?

Maybe without the accessory even?

7904RockboxBugsApplicationsLowDisable shut down on Rockpaint for iPod & Suggestions2007-10-0821 Task Description

Holding the Pause button (to move/paint down) will shut down rockbox.

This shutdown combination should be disabled for Rockpaint!

While I’m at it (and you can put this in a different Flyspray if you want), I suggest that we make use of the iPod scrollwheel somehow in Rockpaint, maybe to change the size or shape of the brush or something and/or in the menus.

I would also like to be able to set the colour of the background to start with.

7868 RockboxFeature RequestsOperating System/DriversLow iPod Linux scrollwheel driver for absolute positioning 2007-09-30 Task Description

I was reading on the iPod Port page that a better driver for the scrollwheel needs to be made so that the absolute position of touch on the wheel can be determined.

From using iPod linux (or iBoy, at least) I can say, that it has been done. In Rockboy, I have assigned different keys to “touch left” and “press left” for instance.

Can’t Rockbox developers use the iPod Scrollwheel code from iPod Linux?

7863 RockboxBugsUser InterfaceLow Display does not update if iPod plugged in USB port whi ...2007-09-291 Task Description

I have been meaning to report this bug since the beginning of the year, possibly, and it still hasn’t been fixed:

When my iPod 5G (30Gb) is plugged in via the USB Port of my computer and I press a button to boot the iPod, Rockbox loads, then freezes at the Menu.

Boot mode is not entered and hitting play doesn’t start the last song played, but touching the wheel makes the LCD Backlight respond, and the device shuts itself down after the idle time…very strange.

I am using the iPod Linux bootloader to boot the Rockbox.ipod file. Rockbox works when the USB cable is inserted during the loading phase (I inserted it while it was ~ 25-50% loaded) and diskmode is entered, but not if the USB cable was already inserted before the device was turned on.
This may be true for the Rockbox bootloader too…but I haven’t tested.

7861 RockboxBugsDatabaseLow Poor performance until database is initialised 2007-09-296 Task Description

I posted a bug a while ago about the very slow menus on the iPod and ways to make it faster to scroll through a large database.

What I didn’t realise is that the reason it was slow was because of a bug!

The problem is fixed when the database is initialised!
I have my database set to load into the ram, and haven’t tested this to see if this is the final solution and I haven’t tested it with the database not loaded into the ram, but it does work for me!

Perhaps manually telling the database to initialise loads it into the ram?

If this is the case, then if “Load Database into RAM” is set to “Yes”, then the database should be initialised when Rockbox is booted, (and after the setting has been set to ‘yes’ if it wasn’t already, of course).

7436 RockboxBugsMusic playbackLow Equaliser, Crossfeeder and Pitch-Shifter optimisations  ...2007-07-151 Task Description

When enabling the software equaliser and/or the crossfeeder and/or the pitch-shifter (and possibly other features that modify the audio in real-time), the device begins to lag and has to rebuffer periodically as the buffer runs out.

The software equaliser is far worse than the crossfeeder, but both together is chaos! The Pitch shifter begins to lag at about 140-160% depending on the bitrate of the audio file.

Don’t flame me now! I know this is expected because of the processing power needed to enable these features, but I would like the developer community to be aware of it if they currently are not which is why I have submitted this report. Hopefully further optimisations can be made to reduce the amount of processing power that is needed and hopefully eliminate the lag in most or all situations.

7431 RockboxBugsManualVery Low Update manual to include "Car Adaptor Mode" 2007-07-142 Task Description

There is a feature on the iPod 5G (and possibly other players) called "Car Adaptor Mode". It can be found in the system settings under the 'limits' settings.

Please update the manual, describing what it does

7427 RockboxBugsSettingsMedium Adjusting bass and treble causes master volume to incre ...2007-07-1222 Task Description

Increasing the “bass” and “treble” in the sound settings increases the miniumum master volume.

For example, if I increased the bass be 6dB, then, -
56dB in the master volume will actually be -50dB (I think it’s directly related in this way). If was then to increase the treble by 5dB, then -56dB in the master volume would now be -45dB (because bass was increased by 6 and 56-6-5=45).

Also, on another note, when increasing/decreasing bass/treble, the only difference I notice is a change in overall volume anyways, not a change to the bass or treble frequencies!

Doing some research on how dB is measured (wikipedia and physics knowledge may help developers to understand)
(it’s logarithmic where dB level = 10 log (intensity level)/(reference intensity level) where the reference level is the minimum intensity level of the audio device)
may improve the accuracy and functionality of the sound volume adjusting feature.

Taking a look at  FS#5387  might also be of some value.

7400 RockboxFeature RequestsVideoLow MP4 Video Playback 2007-07-043 Task Description

MP4 video playback would be nice.
It would also be nice to have a separate video section in the database for supported video formats.
There is an open-source MP4 encoder/decoder called FAAC (if you want to use it as a base), but I’m not sure if it encodes/decodes video.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/faac/

7375 RockboxFeature RequestsMusic playbackLow Choosing first song before playing every other song 2007-06-306 Task Description

Sometimes, I want to listen to a specific song, artist, etc, but still want to listen to all my other music after.

Currently, this is only possible by finding the track in the 'track' section of the database or hitting a random track in the 'track' section, then finding the track you want, and inserting it into the playlist.

I would like to select a song by browsing through the artist/genre/album, etc and that will be added as the first track, but the following tracks will feature the rest of the tracks in the database.

How one would implement this, I do not know, but it will be very enjoyable if it could be done and it shouldn't be too hard to code.

7120 RockboxFeature RequestsOperating System/DriversLow iPod Disk Mode Confirmation 2007-05-062 Task Description

Upon attaching a USB cable (I don’t know if firewire is supported too), a USB image pops up and the device goes into “disk mode”

There should be a confirmation screen asking the user if they want to go into disk mode, as several times, I just connect the iPod to charge it. The user should be able to change the options to set whether they want to by default go into disk mode, stay in rockbox or ask for confirmation.

Also, upon exiting disk mode, the Rockbox OS should pop back up like the Apple Firmware does (without rebooting) if this is possible.

7119 RockboxFeature RequestsMusic playbackLow iPod iTunes database lookup 2007-05-06 Task Description

Instead of wasting precious resources with caching and updating the database, an option should be set that allows Rockbox to read the iTunes database that is created when a user adds a song to the iPod using iTunes.

This database is stored as <drive>\\iPod_Control\\iTunes\\iTunesDB

7118 RockboxFeature RequestsLCDLow iPod Backlight on Menu Long Hold 2007-05-06 Task Description

In the default Apple software, the backlight is enabled by holding down the MENU button and disabled by holding it again.
An option should also be set for how long the backlight stays on in this situation as well as enabling/disabling this feature
