Here is what's missing:
PCB Scans
Firmware
- Firmware and updater can be found here
- There appear to be at least 4 different (hardware?) versions: 00, 05, 17, and 17b (37 & 37b are empty directories)
Hardware
- RAM
- Samsung 4M x 16Bit x 4 Banks Mobile SDRAM K4M56163PG
- Flash Controller
- Phison PS4043FL-6
- Datasheet: PS4043S.pdf (similar controller?)
- Touchpad
- Synaptics LightTouch controller
- LCD
- Manufacturer: ?
- Specs: 128 x 160
- The following markings are on various parts of the the LCD ribbon connector:
LTM0166HA1A2 97-LCTB81-4001 A.2
HA16926C01348 RoHS Compliant (could be HA or AH)
YH 6913 (the YH part of a logo)
Recovery Mode
- Power off the player. Slide the side switch to the OFF position and hold it for ~10 seconds (even after the screen says "bye" and goes blank). Holding the switch is not necessary if you power off from Rockbox.
- Press and hold the Vol + button
- Insert the USB cable (while still holding Vol +)
- The player should power on and display "PHILIPS" on the screen, if it does not, then you did not properly power off the device in step 1. After that, your computer should find the "16-MB FORMAT" drive (Philips SA9XXX GoGear USB Device).
Service Mode
- Power off the player. Slide the side switch to the OFF position and hold it for ~10 seconds (even after the screen says "bye" and goes blank). Holding the switch is not necessary if you power off from Rockbox.
- Press and hold the Vol - button
- Slide power switch to the On position and hold it there (also still holding Vol -) until the "Service Mode" string appears.
- The player should power on and display "PHILIPS" on the screen, if it does not, then you did not properly power off the device in step 1. After that, it should enter Service Mode. There is a "SDRam Test" and a "Flash Loading Test" that seems to start Recovery Mode (prompting to insert USB).
How to get firmware on the device
- Download a Rockbox build and the bootloader.
- Enter into recovery mode per above instructions.
- Copy the Rockbox bootloader build (FWImage.ebn) to the "16-MB FORMAT" drive.
- Disconnect so that the firmware is written to the hidden partition and the player reboots. Be sure USB cable is inserted during reboot.
- Player should now be in bootloader USB mode. Extract rockbox.zip to root of device.
- Remove USB cable and it should boot into Rockbox.
If the bootloader installed successfully but you missed getting into USB mode, simply power back on with the cable inserted and try again.
If bootloader installation fails or to revert to the original state, simply copy an original FWImage.ebn in recovery mode to restore the player.
To enable dual-boot, rename an original 'FWImage.ebn' to 'OF.ebn' and copy it to the /SYSTEM directory. Press 'Vol +' at powerup to boot into it. To go back to Rockbox, hold 'Off' for approximately 10 seconds from the OF and power-up again.
If you're a little daring and wish to run Rockbox alone on your SA9200, you can remove every file from the /SYSTEM directory
except the FWImage.ebn file. This will eliminate the OF altogether. Be sure to back up your system directory before doing this!!
