Rockbox on iriver runtime tests

Introduction

This page documents runtime tests performed by iriver users. This intention is to test the efficiency of the different decoders operating on differently encoded input files.

Notes:

RobertMahs: All benchmarks are made with the same MP3 audio files and the same playlist.

RobertMahs: I made a RB benchmark without battery_bench plugin, too. That had almost exact the same runtime like the benchmark with running battery_bench plugin.

RobertMahs: The benchmarks with the cheap (9.99 Euro) "2200mA" are made at the first cycles. The 1st (RB) got 12h22m, the 2nd (RB) got 12h25m. The 3rd (IR) got ca. 21h20m. The 4th (RB) and 5th (RB) couldn't be finished but indicated a little rised battery capacity. The 5th 2200 benchmark had 27% battery after 11h55m. Cause I couldn't make more benchmarks with this battery, I have entered the (with compared voltage levels of benchmark 1 and 2) calculated 13h50 in the table to make the RB/IR compare 100% fair to RB.

HuyDao: For some reason batterybench stopped logging at hour 18, 15 minutes, however the true run time was 19 hours, 50 minutes. Test was made with Disk Power Off: On, EQ: Off, Crossfade: Off, ReplayGain: Off, Disk Spindown: 3 secs and light usage of the LCD.

HannesGreiner: about 5% of the music encoded in MP3, rest in Ogg Vorbis. EQ: Off, Crossfeed: On (default settings), ReplayGain: Album Gain, Disk Spindown: 5 secs,

ThomasBantel: I ran a shuffled playlist of some hundred MP3 VBR songs, Bitrate ranging from 180 to 230. Crossfade: on (duration 5 sec), equalizer: off, replaygain: on (track gain, preamp 3.5 dB) I stopped the playback after 20 hours to avoid problems with too low voltage for sure.

RonakSha: Done using HiPod WPS, On WPS the whole time, general backlight usage, once every 15 minutes or so for approx. 40 seconds each time., Crossfade: Off, EQ: Off. Ran same three songs located on one playlist until it died,

LauriMela: Around 50/50 distribution of Vorbis and MP3 files. MP3 files encoded with various settings (50/50 VBR and CBR around ~192kbps). Replaygain in album mode enabled.
