Last.fm (AKA Audioscrobbler) Logging

Description

Last.fm is a social music site that tracks your musical taste, finds similar users, and provides musical recommendations. Rockbox can produce a log file allowing you to submit the tracks you have listened to on your DAP.

To enable Last.fm logging, set the option under the Settings -> Playback Settings menu. A reboot is required before this option comes into effect. This will now produce a plain text log file, .scrobbler.log, located in the root of your player. See this Audioscrobbler wiki page for more information about the file format.

Log Submission

The resulting log file can then be uploaded to the Last.fm site, via a number of different methods:

Known Issues

  • Upload methods that use protocol 1.1 are limited to submitting songs in the order in which they are listened to. If you also submit tracks via a PC you must upload the Rockbox .scrobbler.log before you listen on your computer. Protocol 1.2 lifts this limitation.

  • To be submitted, each track must meet the following:
    • must be longer than 30 seconds.
    • needs valid meta information for both track and artist names.
    • track must have been listened to for more than 50% of its length.

  • Devices that don't have an RTC (Archos Player & Ondio, Iriver h1x0) will produce a log called ".scrobbler-timeless.log" - the timestamps in this file are always recorded as 0.
