Release Notes for Rockbox 2.0

These release notes were originally posted on the mailing list.

General changes since 1.4

• File queueing
• Rename & delete files
• Virtual keyboard for text input
• Sleep timer (power off after X minutes)
• Playlist creation
• .cfg files now support all settings
• Write current settings to a .cfg file
• New channel modes: Stero wide, Stereo narrow and Karaoke (voice filter)
• Bidirectional scrolling of short strings
• Improved charging algorithm, including trickle charging
• Estimated battery time left info
• Repair/update of broken VBR files
• Improved ID3v2 handling
• Status bar is active in USB mode
• Fade out/in on pause & stop
• Many additions to WPS (see manual page)
• Extra antiskip buffer option for shaky environments
• Even faster playlist loading
• Lower cpu power consumption == longer battery life

Player-specific changes since 1.4

• RockLatin dynamic charset system (ISO 8859-1 support)

Recorder-specific changes since 1.4

• Recording
• Support for FM Recorder (but not its FM radio)
• Invert Display option
• Disk Poweroff option (saves power but increases spinup time)
• 12 hour time display option
• Battery & volume numeric display option
• Russian, greek, hebrew and thai filename support
• Undo in Sokoban

Performance

We have tested with bit rates from 32 to 320 kbit/s and sample frequencies from 11 to 48 kHz. If you experience skipping, please report it!

Limitations

• The maximum supported directory length is 400 files, or a max sum of all filenames of 16000 bytes. Whichever is reached first.
• Max playlist size is 10000 entries.
• Max 100 queued files.

Known bugs in this release

• "Red led dead": Sometimes when the jukebox is shaken or bumbped, the disk freezes with the red led shining. This only happens to some units.
• On FM Recorders, the battery does not display a charging animation when charging is in progress.

If you find that one of the supported features misbehave, please file a bug report on our web page. Do not report missing features as bugs, instead file them as feature requests.
